Ok everyone don't fall over, it's me!!

My off season training will consist of a 12 week 1/2 mary training which really already started but "officially" started on Sunday.  The 1/2 is January 18.  I am adding in strength and walking with another friend who has recently quit her job and wants to stay active during the transition time from full time worker to self employed.  She has boot camp dvd's that we will be using to work on upper and lower body stuff.  We walked together this morning and it was just lovely!

Take care everyone.  I am sad to hear about all the injuries, rest and recover quickly and smartly!!

Hiya Manatees!

Long time no *see* for lots of folks

check in and let everyone know how you are doing

I'll start,

I'm doing pretty well, things are feeling better out here in PA, we seem to have gotten through some of the major hurdles and bumps that we were hitting in the first month - I'm sure we'll still encounter some things, but for now it's better and we are all feeling more settled.

On the training front, I am having a hard time getting motivated.  Well, not so much motivated as it is finding the right time to train -

I start out ever day with the best of intentions to get up early and then..................take my stuff to work to work out at lunch and then....................things come up late in the day and I can't do it after work and then..........................the day is gone

I have no trouble on the weekends - lol!

what is everyone's tips and tricks for finding the time?

Motivation????  I have lost mine too!!!

My goal is to do as I can and not beat myself up when I don't manage to get it done.  I have a 1/2 mary in January and I am TRYING to stick to a training plan with the race as the goal.  I have two running partners that hold me accountable, at least for the standing run that we do together each weekend.

Life gets in the way of the best intentions.  The key is to not let it cause too much stress and just jump back in when it gets out of the way!  Be kind to yourself, you are your own best friend!!!

That sounds like a good approach to me - I have a tendency to beat myself up

I'm planning on a 1/2 Mary in Jan or Feb, just waiting for the dates so we can make a decsion

I'm going to run the race with another BT'r that I met through the challenge forum - she's super fast though, so I should probably say we are going to both do the race and then hook up afterward

it should be fun!

one would think that would get me out of bed in the morning - LOL!

I'm still sidelined with my ankle injury--did get to the gym today for a bike workout, but that just isn't that taxing.  I need to be patient, as I think I overdid it last week and am paying for it this week.  Very frustrating.  I'll keep you posted.  My next event that I am reg'd for is a 1/2 marathon in June. I am sure there will be other stuff prior to that, however!

I'm still working out althoug not as much, especially on the running front.  I am still sidelined with this strange injury since getting nailed by that bike in August.  Since I checked in last, I have had an MRI (normal--kinda), many PT appointments and two sports med doc appointments.  What a long haul.  I am trying to stay positive.  I booked a condo for Boston so I am bound and determined to get well enough to start training for it in December.

Leslie -- good luck with the ankle.  Don't rush back (although I rarely heed that advice).

Beth et al -- I am not nearly as busy as you folks, but I find the best way for me to get an exercise in is to schedule it in my Outlook calendar and do it.  Lots of early, early mornings, but never a late night.  I am lucky to be a morning person and that helps.  I think you need to find your groove and then stick to it if even a couple of times per week.

Have a good weekend!!

Hey Suzy!  still dealing with the mystery I see.  I sure whish the docs could help you figure out what's going on and help you solve it!

I think you're on to something with the finding my groove - I think I need to rethink the training plan, it's just a bit much for where I am right now

well hello to all of you, and Happy Holidays to all......it has been a while since i have posted here. i have been busy with work, kids, life, and i still squeeze some training in. i have had this painful knee issue for over three years-it really impacts my running ability. i finally found a great orthopedic doc, and now for the really part....i get to have a partial knee replacement. this is the best treatment based on the current damage to my knee. it is basically bone on bone with no meniscus or cartiledge. fun stuff. so on february 11 a new chapter of my life will unfold, and one that will allow me to run with much less pain at some point. so how is everyone else doing??? take care, train like you race, and smile.

Hi Will! So great to hear from you!

Wow, over a month since a post here. Many of us still keep in touch with each other, so less talk on the forums, I think. Also I went through my illness and was just not able to keep up with things.

But I still love my Manatees.

I think everybody has done at least one tri, and many have even gone on to the half-iron distance!

P.S. And I'm a newbie all over again--just signed up for my first IM, it will be IMKY on Aug. 30!

Hello peeps!

I hope all is well....I know this is the scary busy season....don't forget to train!  I say that for myself, mainly, as I have a serious problem with Christmas Cookies.  And Hanukkah Cookies, Kwanzaa Cookies....you name it.

I was finally cleared to run last week and am loving running.  I have missed it so much.  Unfortunately I picked up some lung crud in my trip to Washington DC so have to stop and hack a lot, but it's better than not running!  I also started an off-season training plan so that I have some goals to reach, at least until my hopeful surgery in January (reducing the girls).

Last week I sent in my application to be a LUNA Chix team member.....I will keep you posted.  I know I have logged so much about wanting to be on their tri team....hopefully I have a shot at it.

Finally, here's yesterday's Santa picture and my obligatory "aren't my boys cute" post.  Please to enjoy:

This place sounds like the confessional:  "Forgive me Manatees, for I have not posted in a long time"

I have been running, some and spinning, some and generally staying pretty busy with work and family.  I am feeling strong but not yet ready for the 1/2.  I lost one of two running buddies due to planters warts on the ball of her foot.  She's out for the half in January.  Me and T must get to increasing our running volume or we will be walking the race!  Hopefully, we will survive it this weekend.

I am in the big middle of making xmas gifts for 75% of the folks on my list.  I am a crafting maniac and have all kinds of supplies to work with that I have collected through many years of rummaging through thrift stores and resale shops.  I have a great pattern for an over the door closet organizer with some great funky, vintage, beautiful fabrics to work with.  It's cost effective and it also clears out some of my stash!  Hubby is very happy on both accounts. Me too, because after the holidays will be a great time to replenish!

I hope all of you are healing well, holding it together well, getting through the holiday season without too much stress and most of all, just enjoying life!!!

Hi, gang!!

So I was just perusing the thread in the main tri forums about people's plans for next year, and wondered what you all were up to. I know Yanti and Dolores are signed up for IMs (woohoo, ladies!) and Suzy's running Boston (and I imagine has more tri plans on top of that). What else is going on?

I haven't signed up for any specific races, but I'd like to do at least one more marathon (probably San Francisco Marathon), one or two half marathons, and a whole bunch of shorter races. There's also a trail-running series that I'm considering. Running will be my focus (big surprise, I know), but I'd also like to do a few sprint tris, just because they're so much fun.

Answer quick! I fear they're going to shut us down to make room for new mentor threads!

2009 goals:

Surgery with 6 weeks of healing, then be much faster with smaller girls that won't get in the way.  Hopefully in January so I am healed by March.

Turn 40 (Feb) and have a fabulous party or do something memorable.

Oly tri in June, and a smattering of my favorite sprints throughout the season.

Possible HIM in August/Sept if the above healing is on target timewise.

Be a LUNA Chick...stay tuned for that.

I want to do a tri in San Francisco or LA.  Which ones should I consider??

'Zat enuf?

Hello Manatees!

We're moving into a new mentor season and you guys were so awesome that Bethie Love and I are indeed taking on another crop of newbies.

However, you brilliant experienced senior Manatees are still loved, wanted and needed! If you wish to be a part of the New Manatees group, by all means come with us for the ride!

Here's where we are for now ... I'll post a new link if we get a new one.

It will be a year of "firsts" for me.  First marathon (Disney, Jan), first Oly. (May) first Centry Ride (July...only doing 55 miles or so) and first HIM (Augusta 70.3 on my birthday in Sept.)

I have someone who did Kona this year (jonathan22) who lives near me and he has worked up a plan for me...I am excited and ready to get back after it.  I love to run but I have been running only for a couple of months now and I am ready to do some other stuff.

Hope everyone has a great holidays and watch out for the Manatees 2.0.  I have Beta tested it and it should be a great release.

that's a good question, all I know for sure is that I have 2 1/2 Mary's planned, one in Jan and one in Feb

I know, I know!  Who would have thunk it? Beth doing a 1/2 Mary

other than that I really don't have it scoped out yet, I need to get familiar with the races around here.

I'll probably do a sprint and maybe a couple of olys, kind of depends on the cost
