Looking at the latest on NOAA, the winds may gust up to 13mph with a small chop in the water...

That ended up being a pretty big chop on the water, I've never had a tougher swim...how did you guys feel about it?

The water was rougher than I expected. Very sad about the guy who didn't make it.

I am in awe of all of you!!  That water was rough yesterday (and probably worse today).  I was watching from the beach, and everyone seemed to be having difficulty.  And it is very sad about the guy who didn't make it.

Yea...I just found out about it from a friend at the race....

does anyone know what happened to him?
From what I'd read he'd done the race before...and his whole family was there...

it really puts a damper on everything...very sad...

The news reported that it was labeled an accidental drowning. His family had requested that his body not be autopsied.

I recently learned about S.I.P.E or Swimming Induced Pulmonary Edema that can cause death in open water events. Check out TriTalk.com episode #62. Could this have been the cause? we'll never know...
