I'm going to be renting a car for a few days this summer so I figured before I start looking into getting a reservation I'd see if there is anything special I need to know.  Seems like it should be pretty straightforward....

Are you OK with maual transmission? If not you'll need to specify automatic.

Last time I was in Germany, I rented a BMW w/ a Nav system.  Thing only spoke German.  I don't.  My advice - make sure any nav system can speak your language...

make sure you rent a car at the major airport from a major company in Europe. We went to Austria couple of years ago, and did not rent a car right away. We paid dearly for it, rented a tiny car in a small town ... they jacked a price for us and would not let us use a credit card even though the door had a visa sign on it, oi! If we rented a car at the airport we would pay for the entire week what we payed for one day!

Check your CC if you are going with the automatic coverage deal.  Some countries (N. Ireland coems to mind) are not covered.

Be prepared for a tiny car.

Thanks for the tips.  So I guess I can expect a tiny car that will yell at me in German.  Not exactly Knight Rider but it'll work, thanks.

No, no.  I need a car, not a Burly.

Yeah, from what I saw in Holland, the Burly is a lot faster.

That's cute!! More like an accessory that you wear than a car though.
