Wait ... does it actually count if you announce it?

Scott--you are ALL HEART. ALL HEART. I absolutely adore you and your ability to a) be kind and loving, and b) lay it all out, being true to yourself and your feelings, whether they are good, bad, popular, unpopular, etc.

There you have it, my latest Good Deed was to repay just a smidgen of your thoughtfulness to me

That's an awesome story....many Karma points (does Karma have points?) for you....and the Blonde too for that matter.

My closest brush with goodness recently (at least I suppose it's good). We have a local public official who recently had a very public and unpleasant departure from her post. She has been in the library recently, using out cmputers to literally send out resumes. It's pretty sad. I have helped her deal with g-mail and USB drives and a few technical things....I'm torn as to whether this is really a good thing or not. I guess that on the personal level, it's a bit of kindness in a cruel world, but am I aiding in sending someone else our "damaged goods?"........Not as clear-cut as helping little old ladies across the road.

I made and took dinner to a friend whose son is in ICU... didn't even ask if she needed it.  the meal is a freezable meal so even if she didn't need it last night she can have it another time....  Just 1 less thing to have to worry about for her other children.

I put a bag over a cocoon outside so it won't get eaten by the birds. When it's finished we're taking it inside to watch it hatch. Do good deeds to animals count?  (oh, and I didn't totally suffocate the cocoon, just kind of hid it from predators - I guess it wouldn't count if I killed the thing)

I drove my friend's daughter to school because her other daughter was too sick to leave the house. That's not really a good deed though - I would do that anytime.

I donated blood last week.

And my boyfriend and I are letting his mother live with us temporarily until she can get back on her feet (recently divorced with medical and financial issues).

I have a friend who closed on her first house yesterday.  I met her at the new place with 2 tall boy PBRs to celebrate and remind her that now all she can afford is cheap beer.  Then I took her to dinner.

I used to be that guy that pulled out chairs for women, opened doors for them, stood up when they walked into the room, etc. They eventually beat that out of me by consistently sitting in the chair next to the one I had pulled out or opening another door for themselves. It makes you feel pretty stupid to be standing there holding a chair for someone and they ask you why you're waiting to sit down.

We rented some ATV's while in Arizona last week.  I found a set of rental car keys about 20 miles from nowhere.   We were on the lookout for that model vehicle on the way back, but didn't see it.  Even tried the panic button in the trailhead parking lot.  Not having any luck locating the vehicle/owner, I returned them to the agency.

I sure hope the renters were on a guided tour when they lost them and not out there hiking.

Stopped at a small town and ate lunch.  Noticed a man sit down across from me and read on his shirt that he was a band director.

When leaving I paid for his meal and told waitress to tell him I appreciate what he does

Helped a lady retrieve her luggage from the storage rack above the seats on the train (in Italy last week).  She didn't speak much English, and I don't speak much Italian, but she understood and accepted my offer.

I used to keep an extra set of goggles in my glove compartment just in case I forget to bring my pair to the pool (thanks BTers for that tip!).

Every time I swam, I would inevitably run into this older Japanese gentleman who would swim in his boxers and had no goggles. But he was always there swimming nonetheless.

Last week I brought my "extra" pair of goggles in from my car, and on my way out the door I laid them at his sandles that he puts at the edge of the pool. The next time I saw him swimming, he had them on.

There is no replacing that type of feeling.

I made a loaf of beer bread for my boss. Her mom is in the hospital (Guillian Barre syndrome), and my boss sits with her Mom a couple days a week and weekends. She and her extended family stay with Mom in shifts. That is one freaky terrifying disease. Within 48 hours she was completely paralyzed, unable to breathe or swallow. She's been like that for 5 weeks now. She's mentally in there. Just can't get out. So really a loaf of bread is hardly worth mentioning. Our workgroup is pitching in for grocery delivery for her too.

I organized a group of 13 people, including myself, to go to the Corporate Volunteer Day at The Painted Turtle on May 17th.  The Painted Turtle is a summer camp for children with life-threatening illnesses.  I lead a group of 10 people and our task was to weatherproof deck furniture and all the signs around camp.  We had 10 people and we "painted" dozens and dozens of benches, rocking chairs, tables and signs.  It was hard work but rewarding.  I was a volunteer family pal at the camp for the weekend in April and in July I'll be going back for a week as a volunteer cabin counselor during the hemophilia week.

It feels so good to do good deeds and to hear about everyone else's good deeds.

Just y'day evening while waiting to pick up pizza, there was a blind lady who crossed the street to one of the many downtown squares. As she did so, she drifted a bit and missed the connecting sidewalk, so now she is stuck on the main road searching for the sidewalk....I locked the van with the kids inside and walked the 30 yards and helped her to the next square which happened to be her destination....I was really hoping my oldest (7 yo) would pick up on the 'helping someone out with nothing but a thank you in return' thing...
