Pre-race routine:

I really didn't get any sleep the night before. The little one was not comfy in her surroundings. Finally fell asleep around 3:30 and was up at 5:45. Got dressed, brushed teeth and out the door. Had Poptarts and water in the car on the ride to the Alliant Center. Met up with some old friends and took the shuttle to the Capitol. Immediately got inline for the porta john and waited about a half hour. Not sure what the heck those people were doing in there. Perfect timing though cuz we lined up with the 2:00 pacesetter just minutes before the race started. I was looking for fellow donkey's and low and behold 1stTTri was right in front of me. We introduced and wished luck. Later I would see him towards the finish shoot (of course he was done already) and he gave me a little encouragement for the finish shoot. THANKS!
Event warmup:

Stretching!! Probably not enough.

Comments:

Felt great! I blew away my goals. YIPEE! I ran 8 miles with a friend who I told to take off. Plugged in the earphones and settled into a bit slower pace. Mile 11 came and my left knee and quad were giving me trouble. Had to stop to tie my shoe....d@mn! Didn't think I was going to get back up, but I worked through it. At mile 12 the adrenaline kicked in a bit and I was able to pick it up. Saw my honey and kids just before the finish line, so that gave me even more of a kick. Needless to say, I crossed the finish line in tears. My first half marathon done. All that prep and it is done. Sorta like planning for a wedding. Plan, plan, plan and then the big day goes by in a flash.
What would you do differently?:

Eat a little more. I was actually hungry by mile 9. Figure out why my knee gives me trouble.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching while waiting in line for viddles. Half hour wait for the pasta, bagel and fruit. I was starving. My right knee and hip started to hurt. I was not looking forward to sitting in a car for the ride home. Of course i stiffened up and could barely get out of the car. Took a shower and climbed into bed with my 2 year old for a quick 45 minute nap. Woke up and iced my knee. I can now safely say I can walk again. Probably should've iced before the nap, but I was so exhausted.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. I was very pleased with my time. First goal was to finish in 2:10, check. Second goal was to break 2 hours, check:) I am going to bask in the glory for days to come:)

Event comments:

Course was a bit hilly, but all in all pretty nice. It was my first, so I have nothing to compare it to.

That was by SHEER luck that I picked that spot at the start, jumped on the barricade and yelled and brayed, and you were right behind me!  FUN NEEE!!

You did great catching me near the last one mile plus.  I was suffering with my typical leg cramps that I get when I do long distance stuff.  I'm always evaluating why it's such a problem.

Way to keep smiling, and hope you had fun!   EEEAAAWWW!!
