Pre-race routine:

Woke up and had a banana and a small cup of coffee. Picked up Dexter and made our way to the race site. Did a half mile jog around the track chasing after my brother(dexter). Chit chatted with Marmadaddy, Dexter, KenJ and his wife waiting for the start.
Event warmup:

Half mile jog around the track chasing after Dexter, uh oh. In NJ 5K's start at 10 am not 8:30am.....my blood just wasn't moving at that hour.

Comments:

Dexter and Marmadaddy start out really fast, I gotta work on that. Without the Garmin, I had no idea what pace I was running, I felt crappy at the start with tingling in my arms, I just knew I had to stay with Dex or I would lose him. At about the mile mark, I started to feel a little better. Paced off of Dex the whole way, thanks! It makes the mental portion that much easier. Rounded the corner and hit the hill, I passed the #1 in my AG and Dex as he started to slow down in prep for that lovely hill. I couldn't hold it on the hill, and thought sure this was not going to be under 24 which I had hoped for. #1 AGer passed me and took off at the top of the hill. When I came in I had no idea of my time, and was very pleased when the results showed under a 24 and 2nd in my AG.
What would you do differently?:

Drink and eat a little more in the morning. Get the HR up a little earlier in the morning.
Remember to standstill and let the Garmin lock in on a satellite.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with Marmadaddy, KenJ, Dexter and crew. Analyzed the race. Firecracker 5K in July is flat, I will have no hill to help me beat Dex. Need to do some speed work.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

so darn early....take a lesson from Jersey, 10 am is so much better!

Garmin never picked up satellites, which I didn't realize until after the race. At first I thought I had just left it in bike mode....not. I need to stand still and let it register.
Course: flat with one hill at the end....oh how I love that hill.
