Sunny
Total Time = 3h 16m
Overall Rank = 12944/18053
Age Group = 38
Age Group Rank = 799/842
Pre-race routine:

Had some oatmeal and a banana, and unfortunately I had some stomach issues in the morning that distressed me some. This issue contributed to me be late and actually missing the start of the race
Event warmup:

Didn't really get a chance to warm-up, was standing in line for the rest room, forever.
Run
  • 3h 16m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 14m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good for the 1st 5K actually ran my race pace. Stomach issue started to become a problem during the 2nd 5K and eventually caused a 7min run delay (lines for the PP, I swear), My paced dropped a considerably after that and I had to shift into a run / walk interval from about mile 9 to 12. I finished strong however and enjoyed the crowds as I crossed the finsh line.

I'm trying not to be too critical of my very slow race time and instead focus on that this was my very 1st 1/2 marathon.Just a short year ago I had issues with just doing 3 miles let alone 13.1. I learned alot for todays race and this is going to make the next one all that much easier.
What would you do differently?:

I thought I was careful about what I ate during the days leading up to the race but I'm going to have to be better at pre-race meal planning. Stomach issues are the worst. Continue to train on my running ability
Post race
Warm down:

Light Stretching and simply walking around a little checking out the massive amounts of people that attended this event.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The extra weight I just can't seem to shake.

Event comments:

GENERAL NOTE: My 7 year old son Sean (With is Aunt Marcy) ran the last 1 mile for the race as part of a childrens hospital charity event and received his 1st finishers medal. He even managed to get qouted in the local newspaper.

This was my first 1/2 as well, and surprisingly I finished in 2:23:14. I was shooting for 2:45, so I was thrilled.

Probably my best race ever based on how things went for me. Never really had any major problems and seemed to have eaten and hydrated enough, which has been an issue for me in my triathlons. Hopefully this will carry over to Kings Trail Tri in June on Maui!

Way to finish even when you were having "issues" That drive will serve you well in life and racing. Great to see that your son had the chance to participate and got some "face time" in the paper.

Way to go in the 1/2! That's awesome that you gutted it out despite the stomach problems.

Congrat's on finishing!!! Now, a mere 10 mile training run doesn't seem that daunting, does it.
