Subject: Shaving Legs
I've been noticing that my legs are looking very sexy lately, at least that's what my wife tells me.  My calfs and quads are getting very cut.  My questions is: Why do BT's and cyclists shave their legs?  Is it to show off the great looking legs?  Does stubble on the legs hurt?  How do you shave your legs, any tips?  How can I talk my wife into letting me do it?  Thanks

I've heard it makes t easier to clean the abrasions that result from crashes....makes sense, I guess.

Also makes getting a leg massage bearable. Trim it down with some clippers. Buy a second razor, that looks different from your face one, and go to town. Can use soap or shaving cream. Plan on shaving two days in a row the first time, cause you'll surely miss some spots. Maybe the girls can give us some pointers, and let me know where I'm screwing up.

Ah geez, I just started shaving my chest & abdomen to show off my non-existent pecs and 6pack. I guess it is whishful thinking as I am hoping one day soon they will just appear ... it is going to take a bit to go bare on my legs!! Maybe my arms first? It does feel like I am faster in the water already. But the itching is killing me!

ok.... shaving legs 101.

You can use shaving cream if you need to, though it gets expensive if you shave often. I just put a little shampoo on a puff and it works just as well. Make sure you shave up. Be careful around the ankle bone and slow down once you get to the back of the knee or you'll cut yourself. Basically it's the same as shaving your face only easier because there are less bumps. If you don't want the itchies you have to shave every couple of days (depending on your hair growth speed).

When I was younger I would shave my chest hoping I would start hair growth.  I was going for the Magnum PI look.  Stil no chest hair, just leg hair.

Jess,

According to Queer Eye your never suppose to shave against the grain, is that the same for legs.  I think it prevents irritation.  For the ladies out there, how do I get my wife to let me shave my legs?  She says she doesn't want her man to have smoother, better looking legs than her.

JR, maybe if you let your wife shave your legs for you, it can be fun!

Good lord is having shaved legs great. I've been shaving for like 7 years now, and I still get a thrill right after they're shaved. It's really amazing when you get into the sheets for the first time - you just want to rub your legs together all night long. Plus it means your calf muscles look soooo tight!
As far as having your wife shave your legs......YES! If you can get her to...DO IT! It's amazing, trust me!

Reasons why:
1. If you crash, you get MUCH less road rash, it's easier to clean the dirt out, and (most important) when it's healing the hair doesn't get stuck in the oozing nasty mess and get stuck in the scab once it scabs over and really hurt a lot.
2. it's dead sexy. Anyone who says different is jealous.
3. it does afford a significant time advantage when swimming. Shaving alone (if you've got really hairy legs) can let you drop as much as half a second for every 100 yards you swim!
4. you just FEEL faster (and that usually means you actually go faster)

Don't think about it - just shave, ok?

One other benifit to shaved legs. It's easier to dry off after a shower or swim, that hair holds a lot of water.

Ain't gonna happen. I'm losing the hair on top of my head so I need to hang on to it in the other areas of my body. The towel works well for me to get the water off and I'll need to get a wetsuit to make up that 1/2 second per 100 yds in the swim.

I must agree with sirsam16 shaving does make you feel dead sexy. Theres nothing better than pulling a warm pair of pants out of the dryer and putting them on freshly shaved legs.

Damn I thought I had to train and exercise to be sexy when all I really need to do is shave my legs. I wish it was that easy.

Just remember "Waxing" It lasts alot longer than shaving, and your less likely to cut yourself. Why scar up those sexy legs! - You say it hurts?! I thought you guys were tough! If you do it often you become numb from the pain, plus you don't have to worry about stubble as much. ;-)

I did it!

No cuts, but my legs feel weird, cold, and I do have to admit, MY LEGS ARE AWESOME!

My wife hasn't noticed yet, she did ask why it took me so long in the shower.  If she doesn't notice before tonight, I'll rub my legs on her tonight and see if she notices then.

Thanks for the support.

One last question: how far do you go up?  I think I might of went up a little to far.

I am soooo sick of shaving my legs. I am going to go "au natural" for a while and then let my husband do a wax job for me. We'll see how long that lasts before the summer. He's looking forward to doing it waaaaay more than I am.

WAXING, WAXING, WAXING.
and that's all i gotta say about that!

but, don't do it at home....it's baaaad painful and never quite comes out as nice as when you get it done professionally...lasts a lot longer and the hari growing back in isn't nearly as stubby and scratchy and itchy...plus when it does grow back it's not as thick....

and yes, the feeling of shaved/waxed/hairless legs inbetween a nice pair of clean sheets....oh my....nothing better...well, some things are better, but it sure do feel pretty damn good.

My swimcoack told us there are three reasons to shave:

1) reduce drag
2) increase feel
3) psychological advantage

He thought that the psychological advantage was most important - I think that the increased feel is the thing - Someone mentioned it earlier about getting into the bed and "feeling" the sheets - this is also true in the water.

Shaving actually removes a layer of dead skin and brings the nerves closer to the surface of the skin making you that much more sensitive. HOWEVER - if you shave all the time, this effect is negated. Save the Shave for the important events! On our team this meant that the women did not shave their legs but two or three times a year! Winter State, Summer State, and the prom - I did say "the really important" events, right? ;-)

I'm dying here! I haven't been to my e-mail for a whole day (oh my gosh!) and find this hysterical thread that already has over 20 responses in less than 24 hours. You all are going to town.

I've nothing new to add in the how-to department, but let me tell you, JR, shaving gets old really quick!

I joyfully can the whole shaving thing during the winter months, and reluctantly drag those nasty razors out in the spring. The great thing is I live in

BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA

where ANYTHING goes!! Women are much more likely to NOT shave than shave. Of course that leaves a lot of hairy legs decorating the landscape!!

I'm glad your first experience was a good one, though!!
