Just curious if the 70.3 events have changing tents.  Anyone know?  Thanks!

I am doing Longhorn 70.3 and I am trying to figure out what I am going to swim in and race in ... I know most people where the same shorts the whole way, but I judt don't think I will be comfortable with wet padded shorts, but I also don't want to put dry padded shorts over my bathing suit bottoms and deal with the seams for 56 miles on the bike and then on the run.

If you get a decent pair of tri shorts, the padding is sufficient for comfort on the bike, but thin enough to really dry very quickly after the swim. I adore my Louis Garneau Shark shorts, but I also hear that Oomph makes some excellent, long-distance specific tri shorts that have extra padding (but still dries quickly).

My friend actually puts real bike shorts on over her tri shorts that she swims in, then takes the bike shorts off for the run. It works for her; maybe that's something you could try out beforehand. The bike shorts have all that nice padding, but don't get really wet like they would if you swam in them.

You can also get thin gel seat covers from DeSoto (i am sure other places as well) to give a little more padding for those long tri short rides if you need it

AFIK they only offer this at Clearwater (Championship for the 70.3 series). Still IMO it was unecessary but I guess it looked cool in the transition area

I am doing Longhorn 70.3...

Have you ever actually worn tri shorts?  You might be surprised.
He's right...I thought at first that the bike shorts was going to be the way to go...but now, I hardly ever wear them for short or long rides.  My tri-shorts are actually more comfortable to me than the bike shorts. I only pull the bike shorts out now if my tri-shorts are in the laundry basket. No need to worry about them being wet either--you'll dry out fast on the bike....and then just get sweaty anyhow (especially if it's a hot TX day...which, let's hope it is NOT).
See you at Longhorn!

Ok, if you have convinced me to go for the tri shorts -- I need a new pair of bike shorts anyhow, so I might as well get tri shorts and try them out.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at longhorn!

Hook'em!

Try Oomph! shorts with their distance pad. They have 3 versions...Lava is more supportive fabric with one back pocket and their Kilueau has same fabric that has three pockets and a built in wicked cool race belt.

I pee on my bike when racing and the pad gets wet over and over and it was fine as it is designed to dry quickly.

I did the Longhorn Tri last year, and YES, thay had a changing tent at that event.   Now that it is an IM 70.3 event, I don't know if they will change anything.

Eh, I'm the pickiest person ever... and my butt made it just fine for 56 miles in tri shorts. I worn them a few times before the race, and on race day I had no pain to speak off.

At least I can tell you for a fact that there aren't changing tents or even porta-potties in transition.

See, I don't get that. OK I understand there being no changing tents, but you'd think they would stick at least a few port-a-potties in the transition area.

Longhorn last year did not have changing tents last year, but there were porta potties on the side closest to the out road.  There were 2 or 3 right there I think.

I would not expect them to have a tent this year either.

I bought 2XU tri shorts and tested them a couple of weeks ago in a modified Oly and they were great ... now if I could only find a tri top that fits right!

Thanks for the feedback!

Hmmm...last year at Longhorn, there was a changing tent (for ladies anyway). No one to "help," but a place to alter clothing if necessary. I didn't use it during the race (I've always just worn the same thing from beginning to end at the 3 HIMs I've done), but I did avail myself of it afterward since we were immediately jumping in the car for a 10-hour drive home.

I'm from VA and also doing Longhorn, any chance of wetsuits for the race?
