Langley, British Columbia
Canada
TG Multisport Club
Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 14m 4s
Overall Rank = 6/125
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 4/23
Pre-race routine:

Got up nice and early (after having the routine night of out partying, drinking, dancing and lack of sleep as the plan calls for) got up early, made coffee, oatmeal, loaded the Jeep and headed for Langley.
Event warmup:

No warm up. No stretching. Just the way daddy likes it. I just strolled around and chatted with Paul (peby) and his daughter Stephanie (not a member of BT...yet) got body marked by Dr. Leah which was really weird cause she wasn't even supposed to be body marking and I was the only one she did!....hmmmm...odd! Crazypop even made a guest appearance to sigh some autographs...that guy is great!
Swim
  • 14m 28s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

Somehow missed rolecall, probably cause I was yapping with Leah and Dan so my swim time was off (still probably wrong but thems the brakes!) I swam again with a race top on again and it will be the LAST time. The drag I get far outways the time i would save in T1. Otherwise it was a good swim, passed a few people and pretty much had the lanes to myself.
What would you do differently?:

Pay attn to the seed call out so my time is not all messed up, I was listed at 18+ mins instead of the 13 minutes I had on my watch...oh well, oh and no more tri tops.
Transition 1
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

Amazing T1, I was into my shoes and out the door nice and fast. Next year I'll buy some tri shoes to get even faster, the right strap on my helmet somehow got messed up, so it took a couple extra seconds to staighten it out...
What would you do differently?:

Not much, getting faster every time!
Bike
  • 34m 32s
  • 20 kms
  • 34.75 km/hr
Comments:

This was a great bike race for me, I had a plan and stuck to it. take it easy on the first 5 and last 3 KM's. I went out easy and stayed easy. What was hard was that I was still passing people. A lot of people. By 4 KM I had already gone past 11 people and I was taking easy. Made me wonder if I WAS taking it easy! At 5 KM I put the hammer down, it was a Sprint after all! I was screaming by a bunch of people and it would seem that I passed all but 4 people. Rock on! Consolation prize = I was fastest on the bike and fastest OA...so far...
What would you do differently?:

Go faster, I held back and felt great, I loved it, HAMMER! I love my bike and the legs that make hime go fast!
Transition 2
  • 00m 33s
Comments:

Here is the mind fart; unbuckled my helmet chin strap too early and got nailed with a 2 minute penalty. Instead of 6th it would have been 3rd and if I hadn't messed up my swim seeding, I would have had second..."if ifs were horses, beggars would ride" my mom used to say...still a great T2 and things were smooth.
What would you do differently?:

listen to the ref's yelling at me, I found out later that if I had stopped and put my strap back on, I would not have been penalized..live and learn, that's the way I roll.
Run
  • 23m 46s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 45s  min/km
Comments:

Holy crap, I don't why someone would make H2GU but it should be banned! I took a drink of the stuff on the way out of T2 and I thought I was going to die, not too sure if it was the drink that did it to me but can't think of what else it could have been, add on another 2+ mins for the stopping, limping, groaning I did over the first 1 3/4 KM. 5th place came up behind me (I passed her in T2) like a herd of rhinos, I thought I was dead but found out that races like me, "Seek and Destroy!" Find your competition, hunt them down and pass them at all costs! Love it, I shut off the pain in my guts and chased her down, she made almost 50 seconds on me right away but I caught her and kept on her heels. We passed Leah who told us we were 5 and 6, that made us really hammer, 5th took off and it was all I could do to keep her in my sights, I gained on her a bit but the cramping was coming back in the last KM wich slowed me down again. I came in a bit slower than I wanted and with a 29th OA run, I need to dig a hole and climb in...very embarassing!
What would you do differently?:

Never drink H2GU again...put them out of business...make anyone handing out this product disappear for ever.
Post race
Warm down:

Had some ART massage, ate muffins, watched peby finish (he is one hell of a fast runner, almost caught me...hehehe...almost!)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Gravity. Too many rules.

Event comments:

Great race, will be back for next year...if I'm not banned that is :)

haha!  Loved your RR - too bad about your 'mess-ups' - but hopefully you'll have them all out of your system before Penticton!

Good thing Steve King isn't announcing IMC this year or then everyone would know about the "guy" who got penalized at Walnut Grove.

Hey, I hope you were in "hammer" mode when you passed me on the bike.

Great job out there, it's a blast to race with ya.

Nice RR man! Great race. Too bad for the penalities!! Hopefully you saved me from making those mistakes.

I hear ya on the run part, only problem is I have the same issue with the swim and the bike! Foot in mouth

I found the most amusing part of the RR was the reference to the "hammer"...I had to laugh.

Good job. Hopefully I can line up with ya in a race soon.
