Overall Rank = 44/
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 10/15
Pre-race routine:

Nothing unusual. Up at 2:00 (normal for me) putzed around the house and got there early. Decided to mix up some HEED for this one just to try it out while biking.
Lightning pre-race that stopped right before the race started. That was nice of it.
Event warmup:

Swam one lap, 100m.
Swim
  • 07m 57s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

Slowed down on second half of swim.
What would you do differently?:

Get more practice in.
Transition 1
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

SPD pedals and MTB shoes. I put shoes on at the rack and ran in them. Not bad, not great. This was a heck of a better T1 than my first one ever where I took a couple seconds to figure out what all I needed or didn't need.
What would you do differently?:

Work with road pedals and shoes but with wet roads I prefer having my road bike and it has MTB pedals on it.
Bike
  • 43m 29s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.56 mile/hr
Comments:

Wet road. It rained during most of the bike. Glad I switched to yellow lenses on one set of glasses. Road had been ripped up for repaving and there was gravel all around one of the u-turns. Almost got hit by car who didn't stop for stop sign. Interesting.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Nothing to compare it to.
Transition 2
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

Good T2. I'm a LOT happier than my first T2 ever. I actually had somewhat a clue of what to do.
Run
  • 28m 29s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

I didn't know if my shins would argue with me during this run or not so I took it easy and sang most of the run! I had a blast.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. It was as good as running ever gets.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was my first actual tri ever. I believe it'll get better from here.

Event comments:

My first tri. I did a training wheels tri a month before but this one was a great way to break myself into this addictive sport.

It was great.  About the only thing that was even vaguely annoying was the rain but after being Army for a number of years I found out I don't melt and I had a great time.

Oh, seems I didn't write it up there but my shin splints did not appear and have stayed away for about a month now.  I hope for good.
