Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30 a.m. had the usual cereal and banana for breakfast. Got Camille up as she was going with me. She had never gone to one of my tris before and this was a good one for her to go to since it was short and nearby. I had all my gear together so we just had to get dressed, eat and go.
Event warmup:

Not much of one - I stood in the water. It was like bath water - nice. I hadn't planned on wearing the wetsuit anyway probably would have boiled in it. Found Faeron and Matt and hung out with them for a little bit. Saw Monica and said hello.
Swim
  • 13m 24s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim, really short though.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe warm up some. I don't know. It takes me at least 500 yards to even start to feel warmed up.
Transition 1
  • 02m 52s
Comments:

This went okay. One goal of mine for this race was to do better at transition.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster.
Bike
  • 39m 13s
  • 11 miles
  • 16.83 mile/hr
Comments:

Fun bike ride. At first I was all wound up - heart racing and breathing hard. Did a better job of calming down. Ate something and got some water in the tank. Hit 30mph. and passed a bunch of people. Super fun stuff. Fastest average - almost 17mph! I felt good when I was done too.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster? Hills, slight inclines, anything not flat I need to work on...its getting better though.
Transition 2
  • 02m 50s
Comments:

Okay T2.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster.
Run
  • 39m 31s
  • 3 miles
  • 13m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Okay run, once I calmed myself down and settled in. I will not bring my water bottle with me next time. I didn't really need it and it sloshed which I found to be very annoying. I liked running on the dirt - it was good for my foot and it didn't hurt which was good. I ran more than I walked I think.
What would you do differently?:

Run the entire distance. I had to walk a bit at the beginning til I calmed myself down.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around - high fived Matt and Faeron and Monica. Found my Dad and Camille - I loved having them there. It was great to see them when I came in from the swim and the bike and of course at the finish. Got a medal! Woot! Gotta have the medal. Got all my gear together and my Dad took me and Camille out for breakfast. I love those two people so much.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I wish I could settle down faster at the beginning of each leg - I spend a lot of time getting my heart rate and breathing under control again. It was way, way better this time though. I need to lose some weight. I don't like the way I feel when I run and I am sure this doesn't help the PF I have been having for what seems like forever.

Event comments:

Overall a really fun and zippy race. No food at the end was a bummer. I could have used a banana or an apple or something. It started a little bit late.

Fantastic race Dolores

I bet the bike course matches up nicely for Carp which means that you will likely clock another great bike split. (A few places to hit 30+ MPH but no steep climbs) The run has a few sections that are on trails so you will feel right at home.

I wonder what Camille thought about the while Tri experience

I wish I would have been able to sneak out and do this race. It would have been tough though since I did not know if my bike would be in yet or not.

See you in Carp

damn girl, look at that bike split!   Great job on Sunday!  I forgot to ask about your foot after the race, I'm glad it didn't hurt too much.  I hope Camille had fun, it was awesome seeing her and your dad after the bike portion.
