Total Time = 3h 02m 9s
Overall Rank = 481/619
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 30/34
Pre-race routine:

got to race site early. had plenty of time to set up and get ready at a casual pace. which was good.

good rack spot. fantastic that this race puts names on rack so there is no space fighting and they actually patrolled the racks for 'issues'. very nice touch.

2nd swim wave so had to be ready. race delayed 10 min due to mist on pond.
Event warmup:

no warm up.
Swim
  • 32m 25s
  • 1408 yards
  • 02m 18s / 100 yards
Comments:

swam only 3-4 times this summer, actually since september of last year so didnt expect anything but to finish and was questioning that!
started at the back of the pack to the side and just did my thing. a few guys were as slow as me so had to dodge them plus be aware that the next wave would come thru.
breathing was good. arms were good, kick was good. got it done.

really, really nice to see kathy G and crew at the swim finish line. cool peeps they are.

What would you do differently?:

actually a better time than previous cranberries that I swim trained. I guess I could have jogged thru to T-1 instead of walking.

one of these days I need to actually pay attention to swim training and go to TI class. till then, I am good with the swim that I can survive.

Transition 1
  • 05m 13s
Comments:

a bit slower than I would have liked but on par with what I have done before.
Bike
  • 1h 24m 28s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 17.69 mile/hr
Comments:

bike computer says 1:23 18 MPH. had to make a bathroom stop along the way so that slowed a minute or 2 or 3. took a comfortable ride. no race pace. just enjoying the ride. checking the scenery and changes in the town in the 5 years I have done cranberry. had fun in aero on some of the hills and took some flat stretches at a good pace which was fun.

What would you do differently?:

I have been biking but not at a race pace. probably try some more serious training in the coming years.
Transition 2
  • 02m 24s
Comments:

smooth bunt not particularly fast. had to tie shoes, etc. could have been a bit speedier. happy with it though since I hadnt practiced this season at all.
Run
  • 57m 41s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

legs felt good coming off the bike. got into a nice feeling pace right off. hopped into porta potty that isis was guarding. fell into a nice comfy pace for run. knew the course. took some water at a couple stops.

Post race
Warm down:

walk around. grab some cool drink and chow. hang with BT peeps. cheer on BTers as they come in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My whole strategy of this race was just to have fun and finish. That I did!

No other races this season and no swim sessions is really not a 'plan' for a race. 2008 has been all about steadying the boat of life, been battered by the waves in the past couple years. Training has been all about 'maintaining' and not about 'improving' or any schedule.

glad I did this race, isis talked me into it at the expo and I wasnt sure I could afford it then. overall I was tired but not totally wiped at the days end. good workout day.

Event comments:

cranberry is a well done race. this year was even better. improved security at bike racks. roving checks as well for little issues in transition zone. plenty of volunteers. good food. improved attitude of 'being green' which is good to see. good tunage.

Great race Glen! Especially for not having trained.  It was great to meet you.  I did feel a bit professional with our names on the bike racks.  TONS of room for transition.
