Sunny
Total Time = 2h 06m 29s
Overall Rank = 13/770
Age Group = open wave
Age Group Rank = 13/49
Pre-race routine:

normal b-fast and shower. did some short stretching and left the house. go to transition for setup and then did a warmup run by going to put my bike pump in the car. by the time i got back it was go time. put on the wetsuit and got about 10strokes in before it was race time.
Event warmup:

little run back to car and a 30sec swim prior to start
Swim
  • 21m 35s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

got caught up with a few folks at the beginning that were crowding me but continued to push thru until i had enough and i slowed to let this jackass to the right on me pass. he hit me so many times and no matter how hard i tried to moe away from him he followed. after the turnaround i was all alone until the swim exit. didnt loose ground on the group ahead of me but i couldnt bridge the gap either. pleased with the swim.
What would you do differently?:

need to strengthen my shoulders and do more open water swims before AZ. my arms and shoulders were getting tired from the suit.
Transition 1
  • 02m 42s
Comments:

i suck at these and the wetsuit removal didnt help. will continue to work on them.
Bike
  • 1h 03m 24s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 23.52 mile/hr
Comments:

took the first lap conservative and lost a little ground. first time doing this race so needed 1 lap to get a lay of the land. hit the 2nd lap really hard and almost cracked retaking a guy that passed me. took a few mins for me to recompose myself and i let the guy i was jacking with go on ahead. 3rd lap continued to push hard and noticed i was making ground on some folks. ended up passing a few people and was only passed by 1 guy. took in a gel on the first and 3rd lap and drank 20oz water with nuun. goal was 1:05 split so happy with the end result.
What would you do differently?:

get stronger on the bike
Transition 2
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

better than the first transition but took a few extra seconds to put socks on.
Run
  • 37m 21s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

just went for it from the start and continue to put the hammer down and pass people until it was over. never got passed and held the pace thru out. definite breakthru run for me and it couldnt be more please. never felt like i was pushing too hard and probably could have gone 1 more lap. good job with aid stations and cracked open a gel on the 2nd loop to make sure i didnt crack. goal was 39min so i would say this was a success.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

got a massage, ate lots of pizza, drank water, tea, coke and beer. amber and i took carson over the the fountains to play in the water after the race. i think i enjoyed them more than her as a way for me to cool off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the purple maui toe did fine as did the bowels so no issues

Event comments:

best race to date i have been to as far as setup, course, support, and post race food/drinks and activities.

Todde, awesome job all your hard work leading to IMAZ in november is showing. Awesome job from swim to run, that run really rocked. Solid placing, especially since raced open wave as well. Continue working hard and that Kona slot is out there for you.
