(Women read at own risk) Laughing

Don't recall this happening when I used to ride a decade ago, but since pulling down the bike to start tris this summer, it's been ongoing.

With the warm weather, and when my body temperature rises from riding, my balls hang away from the rest of me - trying to keep cool for the little sperms, I understand.

But now I keep racking myself on the seat.  Doesn't matter which pair of shorts I wear (and many of them are the same ones I wore a decade ago).  Somehow the balls find a way to get in the wrong place.  And yes, they're all traditional, padded road cycling shorts.  It also happens with my new pair of tri shorts.

I shift back on the seat to change leverage for climbing, one gets caught on the side and I rack myself.

Bend over to get on the drops for a good flat section or downhill, one of them gets caught and I rack myself.

Reach for the water bottle, I rack myself.

Today I'd gotten out of the saddle to do part of a long, steep climb, and when I sat back down the front point of my saddle caught a ball, and I racked myself.  It's no fun to be in the middle of hurting on a tough climb and add the hurt of a rack.

Does this happen to anyone else?  What do you do?  It's like I can't control where they go when they're hanging so low.  Don't want to just wait for cooler weather when they'll be hanging close to stay warm...

...and women talk about aging and gravity like it only affects their anatomy

Don't you just hate getting old?

You mentioned some of your shorts being a decade old - perhaps some new shorts would be tighter and would hug the boys a little better?

Put popsicles in your shorts at the start of each ride?

I haven't had this particular problem yet, but I think new shorts with better/newer elasticity are in order.  Or consider wearing an old time jock strap to hug the boys tight.

Or call the vet about having them removed? My dog seems to be more aerodynamic without his flopping around...

Some of my shorts are new, so that variable isn't it.  I mentioned the old shorts are still used some because I didn't have the problem before with them.

I've kept thinking "nothing's changed in 10 years except age.  I weigh the same.  The saddles the same.  The bikes the same."

Then it dawned on me something has changed.  I had the big "V" done after our second kid was born 7 years ago.  I got some extra hardware in there now keeping those tubes closed.  Wonder if that's it?????

ummm...no, that wouldn't be it.

It did make me laugh out loud, though; thanks for that.

I think we're back to age and its accompanying loss of elasticity in vital areas. Sorry.

I know that 95% of people will tell you to go commando but I have found a style of underwear that are made out of wicking material (almost like lycra but not as stretchy).

They keep the boys in the place when it gets hot and they decide to "get loose" with no issues.  And they are VERY thin so you can wear a pair of cycling shorts or tri shorts over them and not ever notice a difference.  NO chaffing either.

I think I found them at Target.

As the kid said at the end of Big Daddy -

"is that the guy with the old balls?"

I used to get this MTB riding...I found wearing under amour style underwear or an old fashioned jock would remedy the problem nicely.

There simply isn't the support need in some shorts.

Give that a shot and I'm sure you'll be fine.

You might also try (if you aren't already) buying some bib type shorts to cycle in.  They tend to get a little more support vertically without "gift wrapping" your package in the process.  Of my three favorite pairs of bike shorts, 2 are bibs.
