Not where I want to be...
Subject: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans

Anyone here doing the Ironman New Orleans? I am registered and excited as all get out!!! My tri history is limited with only the Oldem County tri under my belt; my moto go big or don't go at all. I am originally from New Orleans and have riden that course many times. Flat with 4 climbs 2 out and 2 back, both are bridges. I am excited to do my first Ironman distance in my home town.

So anyway shout it your going...

I'm in. Hoping to redeem myself from a awful Florida 70.3 finish last year! Should be a fast race. I'm going with a group of 10. Very excited!!!

I'm in!  I grew up in Louisiana, so it should be fun.  I just hope I can stay off Bourbon until "After" the race.

Has anyone booked hotels/travel for this yet? I haven't even thought about it and am wondering how soon we need to.

I'm searching for someone to travel to and do this race with me as my previous travel partner is no longer an option. So I'd like to hold off as long as possible. Just curious what others are doing.

I booked it several months ago. It is very close to the finish line and across the street from the EXPO. Not sure if they have increased the rates yet.

Here is the info brandCourtyard New Orleans Convention Center 300 Julia Street,

I just booked at the Wyndham Convention Center, which is near the expo and stuff.  Got a AAA rate of $143 per night plus 13% occupancy taxes, so it comes out to $160ish a night.

These rates sound pretty good to me. I was fretting about not having a roommate. I may just book and sort that out later.

I think I'm in as well. Though $170ish sounds great after paying $350 per night at Disney this year.

All,

Keep in mind that the expo and host hotel are not that close to the finish line.  It's a 1 mile walk to Jackson Square and the finish line.  The start is at UNO, that's 7 miles from the expo and host hotel.

I would SO love to do this, but I'm worried about the quality of the water in Lake Pontchartrain, anyone else concerned?

No.  The water is fine.  And has been for many years.  In fact, before Katrina, the manatees had returned to the lake.  You can go to this website to check the water quality http://www.saveourlake.org/water_quality.asp

I really wanted to do this, since I am from New Orleans and my family is still there.  It also turns out to be the weekend of our wedding, which is on the Friday before the race and also in New Orleans.  I thought I could still do the half Sunday morning, and maybe she wouldn't notice, but the closer we get, the worse I think this plan is....
