Great question about meeting, but I need to toss out my own question for advice too:

I am traveling Saturday and so will be doing morning-of packet pickup.  Any advice on time and parking that morning?  Going to try and get a bit of the lay of the land next week.

I'm down with meeting up in advance.  Someone just name the spot/time...not sure what time they open, but there's a Starbucks at Aviation/PCH and another one a block or two North of the transition area - either of those would work, provided they are open...

I'd love to meet up ahead of time! Just let me know where and when!

Chris - congrats on not being a super-clydes anymore! Of course, I'm hoping they'll someday add a "super-athena" category!

Well, I've never done a race before, so forgive me if my suggestion doesn't work, but ...

Looks like the race has a mandatory 6:50am meeting for all participants.  I don't know what kind of warm up you all need, but I can tell you for certain that mine requires coffee.

There's a Starbucks right by the pier (1303 Hermosa Ave, Hermosa Beach, CA - (310) 406-8569) that opens at 5:30am, even on Sundays.   I'll be there at 5:30am

Anyone else, or any other/better suggestions?

There is a multilevel lot there at Hermosa and Pier (actually just north of it, at the Starbucks intersection).  There is also a small lot just south of Hermosa and Pier.  I have parked at the multilevel, I think I got there around 6.  Otherwise, can park in the neighborhoods around and hoof/bike it.

If it's open (which I doubt) Bonaparte Cafe right on pier has better coffee

ETA - I'd arrive as early as you can, the racks are spaced pretty close together, and if you get moved towards the back of the rack you gotta squeeze thru everyone else's stuff.

I'm probably not up for hanging out right before the race. If anyone gets together the day before or after the race, I'd be in. But in the morning...I'm too busy and my bladder prefers me to avoid coffee before a race!

Well...that changes everything! 2 hours of racing and a day or two of pain is totally worth a latte! If I can get the stem of the bike fixed in time and if the cold I seem to be getting turns out to be no biggy...I'm in! I need to wait a few days to know for sure!

Question for veterans of this:

I rode around down there to get the lay of the land and rode north on the strand for about a mile to see the run course.  But, it ended about a mile north of the pier.  Do we make a hard right and go up the steps pictured below and then continue for another .5 mi?  And, do we make the same pass down the steps on the way back?

Thanks in advance.
