Hey Jocelyn,

I know how sick you are ... I've had what I think is the same thing for about 10 days and I'm *just* starting to get my lungs (and legs!) back.

Not trying to push, but if for some reason you get a bit better and just want to have some fun at Hermosa, I have an extra Trek 6700 mountain bike with road slicks and a nice comfy saddle.  Lower the seat post a bit, and I'm sure it would fit you ... happy to throw it on the rack and bring it up for you.  It's got SPD pedals on one side, and a plastic platform attachment on the  other ... so if you have two-hole shoes, I have an extra set of cleats that will work.  If not, you can ride this with sneakers with very little hassle.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw it out there.  I'll be up Saturday and could meet you so you'd have a day to get used to the bike.  Just let me know by Friday 5:00pm.

Feel better!

Also, there's a LBS here that looks to have a few Trek 1.2s ... 2008 models!

Scroll down for availability, because it looks like there are a few in stock in Pearl White ... a 54, a 56 and a 58.

Thanks so much for the bike loan offer. That is so generous! Given my cold right now, I'm most definitely out for Hermosa. The combo of low training lately AND being sick is going to be too much for me and I don't want to do a race that will be a constant physical struggle. So, I'm out for this year, but wish you all tons of luck! It's a very fun race!!!

I'll be doing the Day at the Beach Tri this Sunday for the 4th time. This time around I might have to settle for being a little less competitive. Right now I'm sitting with a bag of ice under my right leg, nursing a hamstring strain from over-doing a workout last week.

Once recovered from the LA Tri, I put all my training focus on improving my speed to get ready for this short sprint tri, my traditional end-of-season race. So everything went to speed circuits and interval training. I'm confident that my bike speed is much improved, and my swim speeded is the fastest its been all year. The run training was going best of all. But a week ago last Monday, on number 7 of an 8X400 interval workout, the right hamie seized up on me. It was so bad I had to walk the 2 miles home from the track.

I took a week off from running and spend a lot of time with my friend the ice bag. The leg was feeling fine by this past Monday, so I did an easy 5 mile run. It felt good, and I was confident all would be in order by race day. But this morning's bike/run brick went poorly. Less than a mile into the run the hamstring started to tighten up, so I dropped the speed down to a jog, and turned back. I effectively cut the run down from 4 miles to about 1.6. Now its ice, ibuprofen and self-massage until Sunday morning.

Hope you guys and girls had a good day!   I decided it was more important for me to get my long swim in with a group, so I swam with LA Tri from Hermosa to Manhattan piers.  BRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!  that wind yesterday blew all the warm water off the top!!!!!!   I drove by the north turnaround on the bike on my way to Manhattan and, frankly, was glad it was not me out there!

Looking forward to the reports

Great job BT'ers! That was a chilly one. Hopefully you all finished with the same number of toes you started with.

Cold, indeed!

I was at the Starbucks at 5:30am, got the first coffee, in fact   I waited a bit, then decided to get to the racks and get ready.  Did that, had another coffee ... which turned out to be an unwise thing to do!

Okay, I'm pretty comfortable with the swim, but today was just AWFUL!  Way colder than I expected, and I think I did too much coffee ... my heart was pounding and I just couldn't catch my breath or find my stroke.  Too much caffeine and cold water does not a good combination make for a first-timer!  00:11:40.3 in the water, but it seemed, way, way longer.  Had serious doubts about whether or not I'd make it.

Bike was lots of fun, but on the run, the coffee hit me again ... had to pee--I mean, *really* had to pee--after about a quarter mile.  No pit stops that I could see along he way.

Well lesson learned.  Thrilled to finish at 1:12:41.9, no idea how I did in my AG.  My wonderful family was there at the finish line, so we just kind of packed up and went back to the hotel for a nap.

Great day, and I'm really bummed I didn't get to meet any of you.  Oh yeah, I realized that after it started to get crowded at Starbucks, there was really no way to know who was who.  I asked a couple of people, "Are you ChrisM?"  After I realized it looked like I was trying to pick up guys, I gave up   Next time ...
