swim mask vs goggles

I see a lot of masks like that actually.    the mask you have looks a lot like the SEAL mask that is pretty popular for tri's.  Maybe a bit more bulkier and therefore farther away from your face and it will increase drag in the water.  But hey, if its more comfortable and it works for you, keep doing it.

What I dont see are swim masks w/ a face skirt that covers the nose.  I only know of two that arent 'dive' masks that have this feature (The Raven and the Bandit).  I prefer the face skirt over a nose clip and would like more options for a larger face.

I've been a swimmer my whole life and always hated the nose piece on goggles.  I didn't/don't have a big nose and even after a nosejob, they still give me problems and leave a deep imprint on the bridge of my nose.  when i tried a friends AquaSphere mask about 5 yrs ago, I was sold.  I see lots of people at tris and a few in masters that use them.  I want to try the slightly smaller version for my next pair, but they are incredibly comfortable and no nose issues!

(personally, i think using noseplugs is more dorky than a swim mask.)

I started swimming this year...  1st I bought a swim mask because I thougt it would be easier to get used to. 

I lost the 1st swim mask and decided to try goggles.  After some research, lots of people like the kaiman and I purchased a pair. 

I have not gone back to the swim goggles since.

I have been enlightened to sweedes and will never go back.

I have a pair similar to that for training.  They don't leak as much, they are far more comfortable to me, I can see better.

Therefore, I use them in races too.  Nothing new on race day!
