For those of you that participate in a Masters Swim; do you just "ignore" the swim part of your training schedule and just do, for example, 3 days of masters, and consider that training enought for an Ironman. Any other suggestions on how to incorporate masters with IM training?

Basically, I do 2 X masters and one OWS per week.

The masters is typically 3-4 K, but ramping up to IM I need more, so I'll either get in early or stay after and do more.  OWS is 1 to 2 miles, depending

I bailed on masters a few months out from my IM.  mainly due to scheduling and needing at least one long swim/wk

I stuck with the master's 2X's per week and added a weekly (most weeks) lunch time swim at the Y.  Our group typically does 1700 - 1900 yard workouts, so I would try and get there a bit early and add in another 500 - 600.  For the last 5 or 6 weeks though I switched to the lake for an ows in the morning instead of the lunch time swim.  The last 2 weeks was all in the lake.

Personally, I think the masters kept me focused on form technique as I have a tendancy to get sloppy when I do all my swimming on my own.  I used the lunch time swims and then the OWS to focus on longer continuous swims.

I stuck with masters 3 x each week. Some weeks I would forgo one of the planned workouts for longer sets or an open water swim. The structure of getting up at 5:00AM was real helpful in keeping the schedule clean for bike and running.

I do masters 2x a week and throw in a drills/form workout on weekends when I can which seems to be about right for HIM training. I'd expect that you'd need more yards for IM training (our top end group does ~3k per session).

Also, I convert almost everything to freestyle as some of our sessions are the "other IM" (individual medly) variety.

I stayed with Masters 2-3 times per week.  The workouts were usually ~3000 - 3200 yrds, but in the last three months, I was adding extra sets before the cooldown to get the totals up to 4k.
