Hey all...we're two weeks out from the beginning of the festivities and I was wondering (I know you're all so surprised to hear this) if anyone wants to get a BT pre-race dinner together?

I believe Bridget (fastcat74) has volunteered to host it, I will confirm.  The plan is to have everyone bring one small thing (there will be a lot of us, so large contributions will be way too much) and then Bridge and I will supply plates, cups, forks, etc.  as well as the pasta and bread.

Since there will most likely be a large crowd, please post a short note if you want to come and what you're willing to bring.  I'm sure we'll have more than enough.  At Arizona in April we had more food than we knew what to do with, and we only had 40 people.

Looking forward to a fun weekend!!  Hey wait...don't bib numbers come out today??

Just found out the "official" big BT dinner is on Thursday.

I'm still gonna open up the invite for Friday, but let's all do the Thursday one either way.

Here's the link to the Thursday dinner...

I'm not sure I'll be in town for the official Thursday dinner, so I'd be up for an unofficial awesome Friday dinner.

I wont be in town untill the volunteers meeting on Fri so I would love for there to be a Fri. dinner.  By the way, as I am working the medical tent, I hope I don't see any of you while I am volunteering at the race.  I will be there for the morning start to cheer you all on.

Cool...yeah we still have to eat dinner on Friday no matter what, so we will have the food.  If you wish to bring something to share, please do.  Otherwise, I'm gonna make Jess's famous salted potatoes (these are to DIE for!!), pasta, garlic bread (see IMAZ 08 youtube video!! LOL), and salad.  We'll have some protein too...probably some grilled chicken.

I will post the location soon...

Heck, I'm only going so I can sign up for '09, and even I'M excited! I'm volunteering at the bike corral, so I'll have plenty of time after the bike cutoff to watch the run!

Anyone know if it's feasible to ride my bike to the race when I volunteer? I'm staying a few miles (west) down the beach and I figured the traffic would be terrible. Will there be anywhere to lock my bike while I'm volunteering? Will part of the road even be open to ride on?

You can ride down...tons of people will be riding in prep for the race.  Not sure about the bike locking but I am sure you can find somewhere to lock it.  The parking actually is not terrible.  There is a golf copurse newar the transition area that ios a good parking place

I parked not too far away last year with no problems.  Traffic control is pretty good on race morning.  I've never had problems parking at an Ironman, they do pretty well.

I'm FINALLY excited.  Guess it's about time huh?  I'm just really looking forward to having a great weekend with friends, meeting BTers I've not met before, and having fun racing.

i will be there also - volunteering and signing up for next year. also not coming in until friday, but will be bodymarking in the morning (look for the girl with the very short dark hair) and cheering people on/taking pictures for the rest of the day.

best wishes to you all: here's to perfect weather (some cloudcover, minimal winds), an ocean smooth like glass, spot-on nutrition, a strong body and last but certainly not least, mental fortitude.

WOOOOOOOOOOOO....Ok, so I'm a wee bit excited today.  Maybe it's cuz I'm gonna be on vacation in 2 short days.  Maybe it's cuz I'm gonna do my first IM.  Maybe it's cuz I've had too much caffeine this morning AND shot a bunch of guns this afternoon.  Who cares!! LET'S PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a race I'm looking at for 2009 or 2010.

Where are you staying? Do you have a hotel room or condo? How close are you to the Ironman village? Did your place require you to have a 4-night stay, like other IM venues?

Thanks for the suggestions.

you can return the favor next year, when i'm doing it

and i don't know if it's because we booked late, but we had no problems only getting a 2-night stay (friday and saturday). we are in a condo (edgewater) about a mile down the road from the race site. i like having a full kitchen. we are signing up on-site for next year ...

and no, i'm not schizophrenic, the other half of the we is my husband, who did this race in 2001 ...

Jeff, what time are you having dinner on Friday?  I would be interested in coming depending on the time.  I have the volunteer meeting at 5:00.

Hey Sherri!  OK, good question.  Dinner will probably be after the volly meeting.  A bunch of the people (including my other half) have to be at the meeting anyway, so unless we had dinner VERY early (not advisable), we'd be all messed up.  So I'm gonna say, just come after the meeting...and we'll have dinner ready.  You probably know best what time it ends, being the volunteer Goddess!!  I'm thinking about 630pm?

For everyone...
Friday's dinner will be at

SHORES OF PANAMA CONDOS
Not sure which unit yet, but we'll have a sign out front that says BT DINNER UNIT ___ and you can just come on up.

Or...call me on my cell.  813.732.0126
I'll let you know where we are.

We will have spaghetti, sauce, cheese, garlic bread, salad, etc.  Bring whatever you'd like to add, or nothing at all...we will have everything we need for the dinner.

We'll make it a quick dinner so everyone can get home and rest for the big day!!
