Subject: Missed Long Bike - What to do...

I was down for the count due to a migraine this Sunday and missed my last long bike of the plan.  I'm sort of pissed about it, so I planned to do it this Sat.  That still gives me two weeks before the IM to recover.

However, when looked at other IM plans, none have a long bike within the last couple weeks.

Should I let it go and stay true to the plan or add four more hours to the planned ride this Sat. and get my long ride in?

Or something in between?

I'm starting to lean in that direction now.  I was just so pizzed off on Sun., that I was determined to do it.  But one long ride will not make a difference in conditioning...

I think mentally, a slow wind down of training hours will be more benificial.

Yeah, you know, I was going to say, "why not get on the trainer for tonight for 6 hours." I mean you had a day off, it would be mind numbing, god knows it would be hell, but you get through that you could get through anything. If it was me, and with my limited training, if I missed a long ride I had scheduled I would have gone a little crazy and probably ended up on the trainer all night.

Then I looked at your logs and, well, I doubt you really NEED another 6 hours on the bike. Hell, the migraine might be your body's sign to start the taper just a little early.

Heal up and Good luck.

Tapering is when the work is done and you are there..only thing to do is not be stupid and do much but let the taper work.

To me doing that 6 hour ride now would fall into the mucking your taper up idea.

Enjoy your taper...dang you did the work, now it is almost time for the fun part...race day!

Don't worry about it, instead just do a medium brick - 50 mile ride on bike/ 4-6 miles Run.   Something about 3.5 hours versus a 6 hour ride.

If you are 2 weeks till your IM, do not do another long ride. It's OK. You will be fine. Taper.

missing 1 long workout does not make or break a successful IM.  you'll be fine.

i got "injured" from a bike crash and didn't do my last 2 long runs...everything turned out fine.

good luck as it's 90% mental from here on out for you.

the force is with you luke...
