I just recently got this Soloist and it was my first bike with clipless pedals. So inevitably, I managed to have a fall with it last week (clipped out right, leaned left... you know the rest of the story). Anyway, the fall was at the end of my ride and I didn't notice anything was wrong until I took the bike out this evening for a ride on the trainer. The left shifter/grip (don't know the correct term) is bent about 15 or 20 degrees towards the center. I'm going to take it to a bike shop but I'd like to know if something like this is fixable or not.

Cycling Guru 15134 Fulton, MD | Subject: RE: Is this fixable? Yes, the shifter clamp just slipped a little. You need a 5mm allen wrench and you go in from the "outside" of the shifter about mid-way up. You'll see a little groove where the allen wrench fits in. Turn in counterclockwise to loosen the bolt up, adjust the position of the shifter/brake lever, tighten the bolt clockwise until snug. Nothing damaged there at all. |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: Is this fixable? No worries. VERY fixable. It's just "clamped" on the bar. You could just force it back in most cases and then just tighten up the bolt that secures it. Or, loosen the bolt a bit, move it, then tighten. I'm not 100% sure where you get access to the screw that holds it, but I believe it's inder the rubber "hood" of the brake/shifter. Just lift it up and find it to tighten... Nothing should be broken - you're fine. ETA: Rick just mentioned where to find the screw/bolt... Edited by Aikidoman 2008-10-21 6:31 PM |

Champion 4835 Eat Cheese or Die | Subject: RE: Is this fixable? One thing to keep in mind. It's better to leave it just loose enough that it will slip in the same situation. It's better to have the shifter slip on the bar in a crash then have it stay fixed and brake something. |

I talked a friend into doing triathlons a few months back and on her second 'clipless' fall the same thing happened to her bike. Just like everyone recommended here, we just gripped and recentered it. No problems since. Just wanted to share and let you know that you weren't alone on this one... |
