jsoza - 2008-10-31 10:54 AM Ok I found it....April 11th...the half mary looks tempting

Easter weekend?

I'm training for IMCdA, but might hang around this group building for that (and I might be toeing the start line at the McNaughton trail run that weekend).

I am going to do it as well and it will be my first marathon.

I now live in Champaign (well actually Savoy) and teach PE in Urbana and teach a spin class at Gold's Gym Champaign.  So if anyone is in the CU area and would like to train I would love to meet people/train with.

OK, gang. Next week starts the official marathon etraining group! Everyone ready? I created a blog to post routes, articles, motivation, networking, etc. The group runs are on Saturdays, and I'm working with another gal on weekday runs as well. For those of you outside the local area, please join us in cyberspace so we can motivate you through the tough winter months.

Don't feel left out if you are doing the half, we have a large contingent growing for that as well. There has been a challenge laid down to double dip half marathons in April. Springfield hosts a fabulous half marathon: The Lincoln Memorial the weekend before the Illinois Marathon. For those who complete both races, we are working on a special incentive.

Check out the blogs. Get out your yak tracks and gators and hit the roads with us!

I could make the trek to Springfield once a month perhaps.  Anyone in the Decatur, Champaign, or Danville area and would like a little training run, I am willing and need to motivate myself.

I am going to do my first full.

I have been a runner my entire life, even less of a cyclist than a swimmer.  So I am able to run 10-13 miles today.  Mattoon is not too far away, I actually have cousins who lives in Mattoon

This week is an 8 mile run according to Hal's schedule. Is everyone ready for the first long run? I think it's supposed to be windy, but fairly warm Saturday morning here in Springfield.

This is the tri being put on by the Fightin Illini Tri Club.  Should be a good event.  The students that are putting this together are working very hard to make it a great event.  I'm planning on it since I am a "public" member of the club as well as doing the 1/2 mary.

5 more days of teaching left for this guy...then two glorious weeks of break and beginning 'thon training.  I went for a easy 8 yesterday in a decent 45 degree weather (windy).  Today however is FRIGID outside with ice.

central IL here is about to get 2-3 inches of snow and the weather is going to drop cold again starting at noon.

With the snow and frigid cold, do you all still run outdoors?  I am 50-50 indoor/outdoor.  Treadmills just hurt my knees afterwhile and I get totally bored.

How bad was the ice in mattoon?  I heard that Mattoon/Charleston public Schools were cancelled.  Larger districts having classes closed is rare.

I'm seriously considering this marathon. I'm in Chicago, but we have an office at the Urbana campus so I could just work down there for a day or two and maybe stay with one of my co-workers.

I haven't even looked at a training plan yet, but I'm considering FIRST. I used it for a half last year and had great luck.

How's everyone handling the cold temperatures? Our local group has been pretty faithful so far. This week will be interesting again. Predicting more icy rain and snow. We have had two days of sub-freezing weather. Our shower pipe was frozen this morning!! I don't mind the cold, but ice is a deal breaker. Had one gal fall twice and twist her ankle already!

This weekend, we are scheduled for an easy 6. Yea!

I'm doing okay with the cold temps right now, but ask me again in February and you'll probably get a different answer.
