Heavy-Dee - 2005-03-03 8:03 PM Hey textridave Aren't labs the best? God I love my boy. No kids here either and he sure gets the best from me. HD

You bet.. I would not trade mine for another dog..  They are a huge part of who I am now..

It is weird saying that but that is how I feel.

Why did poor Otis get shaved?

Mange. KIDDING! He was having some issues that spring blowing his winter coat and Wifey thought it would be good to take him to a groomer to thin him out. The actual result was not intended. But he was pretty frisky for a few weeks...

It was funny to look at him if he was sitting with his back to you. The lighter color of his under coat compared to the rest of his hair made him look like a yellow lab wearing a golden retriever "mask"

The lion tail poofy thing lasted about a week until we trimmed it off. He looked like a poodle. Which is fine if you're a poodle - but he's not.

You guys all have extremely cute dogs.

I have a 4-year-old shepherd/chow mix named Casey, who is the love of my life. He goes running with me sometimes, but his endurance is terrible and it takes a long time to build him up to even 3 miles so usually I just walk him (and we've never had hip xrays taken, but both breeds are prone to hip dysplasia). Our other dog is a 3-year-old lab/beagle mix named Bella, who is a holy terror. We call her Bella B, and the B stands for different things depending on our mood, but it's usually Beelzebub. She has a LOT more energy and endurance than Casey, but she pulls a lot so running with her is also difficult. The biggest problem is that I can't run both of them at the same time (WAY too much pulling), and they get so jealous when I take one of them at a time (even if I'm going to take both of them) that it's easier just to run alone and walk them together.

Oh, and both of them hate swimming......and neither of them can ride a bike. So I'm not sure they can legitimately be called tri dogs.

Frank -- I am very impressed! I tried putting reindeer antlers on Casey and he acted like we were trying to murder him so I gave up. Poor baby.

Angie- Your Casey looks exactly like Argos.  Yours is porbably a little stouter, but the coloring is an exact match.  He's a 90 lb 10 yr old shepard mix, currently a cancer survivor, and pretty much the best dog in the history of dogs.  He used to go MTBing w/me and do 10-15 miles of trails without breaking a sweat.  Now he naps after a walk around the neighborhood, but he still rocks.

Angie, Have you tried a "Halti" or "Gentle Leader" yet?  Basically they are nose harnesses. The Gentle Leader has a strap that goes around the nose and another that straps around the back of the ears.... The Halti is similar, but there are three or so straps.... They control the dogs head, which if you control the head - you control the dog... My pointer pulls all the time, except when either of these are on her!

Also, they make a strap that you can attach to both dogs so that they have to walk next to each other and you clip the leash to that.... if they both have a "nose harness" on, I think it should work and be a very nice walking experience for all of you! - but..... who knows....

We have two dogs - my beloved 8-year-old miniature schnauzer, Penny (see avatar), and my husband's beloved 11-year-old springer spaniel/mix/not sure/mutt Sparky (pic). Sparky used to run regularly with my husband several years ago, but not lately. Penny's not really a running type of dog, but she might make a mile or two if we worked at it (which we currently don't). Both dogs are waaaay spoiled and both need more exercise, so just yesterday I told them both they would be outside walking with me regularly from here on out.

(I sensed an eye roll from mine, but could have imagined it...)

Mike -- yes, they do look similar! Argos is a handsome boy -- I'm SO GLAD he's currently winning the cancer battle! He sounds like a great dog.

Tonya -- we have a Halti for Bella, but she hates it. When we go for a walk, the routine is that they both have to sit, I put their leashes on and open the door, and then I tell them "Let's go!" and they can run outside. When I put her regular leash on, she sits calmly and does nothing; when I try to put the Halti on she writhes all around so that I can't slide it over her nose. I don't know why it bothers her so much, because I've checked the fit and it doesn't seem to be chafing or pinching anywhere. But I've found that if I use the Halti for a couple of days, she's better on her regular leash for a few days afterward. So we cycle between the two. I'd be hesitant to run with her wearing it, because if we were moving at a good clip and she stopped suddenly, I'm worried that I'd hurt her neck when the leash jerked her head to the side. So we run with her regular leash and only use the Halti for walking. It's really okay, because after we've run half a mile she slows down enough to be fine.

LOL funny that this post is here.

I'll begin by saying I have been anti-dog for a LONG time, having never owned a dog growing up, I never really wanted one. I always had the mentality that they are nice to look at, but not to live with. Not to mention the fact I was bit by a dog when I was little, and have always been sort of afraid of them.

Fast forward to 4 weeks ago, when my husband said "Hey, lets just stop at the humane society to look". Well, the result of 'looking' is named Ginger and she is 12 weeks old now golden lab retriever mix. The humane society things she is mixed with some beagle.

So now, I guess i am fully converted, I have to say I love her. She is very good with our son who is 2 1/2, and he loves her. She is so full of energy, and I am really looking forward to going running with her when it gets warmer. She has fit right into our family, and even slept on the bed last night (something i swore would never happen). What can I say,I'm a softy.

Here is a picture of Ginger and my son Sean:

Swimmom... oh, Ginger is sooo cute... and it's awesome you're crate training! You'll have years of enjoyment from that training!!! It's awesome that she's getting along w/ your son... they will be great pals his whole life!!! We got a shephard when I was 9 and she was the best thing that happened to me growing up. She saved me from rattlesnakes and made sure I was ok if I fell running on the trails or climbing the rocks in the hills around our house!! She was the BEST!

Angie, Yeah, Otter shrinks away from me when I'm trying to put it on her, but she knows that she can't leave the yard w/o it... so.. she lets me put it on and away we go... I have it attached to both the halti and her collar that way they are both their for hold if I have to pull her back quickly. You can also try putting just the neck part on her and not the nose part... I did that for awhile.

As long as she is learning to heel that's the important part... Otter is too silly and hyper to learn to heal w/o the halti... sad to say, she's so smart, but so bull headed!!!

Puppy on!!!

I crumble you with cuteness..

We got Belle two thanksgivings ago..
The first picture is at the in-laws where we picked her up. she's probably 6 weeks old.

The second is to show how she really thinks she a lab... or at least more off-road worthy. She's wrong... That is before she had her first trip to the groomers.. she slightly fuzzy..

And a picture of one of our cats, Harry, cause he's pretty freakin cute too..
I have a photo album with more If anyone wants to check em out..
