Don't you have to qualify for these Ford IM events?  The guy with the fins must be a decent swimmer if he qualified, unless he wore fins then too.

Rocket Man - 2008-11-05 11:24 AM The point of all of this is that for the most part we as triathletes are doing these races for ourselves. The percentage of the total population who will qualify for Kona or make the Olympic team (or even podium at the local sprint) is pretty low.

If you cheat whether it is by drafting or cutting the course or pharmasuetically you are only cheating yourself.

OK, here is my $.02.  What amazes me is that you guys seem to care so much. Brett makes a good point here.  98% of us do these races for ourselves. I know I do.  Only a small percentage of people are competing for any type of award.  So he did not go by the rules,  I could care less because I am not racing him.  I am doing it for myself.

BTW, good job Big John for getting some action going on the board.    I understand people taking this stuff seriously if they are even close to getting an award, but I thought most of us were out there just having a good time not worrying about everyone else.

Now don't get me wrong Neal....the guy cheated so IMO he should be slow roasted on a spit, tarred and feathered, banned from all IM races for life, and should burn in hell for all eternity (can you tell I don't like cheaters?).

My point on the matter was why? Why did he feel compelled to resort to cheating. He signed up for the race a year in advance, which is more than enough time to become at least an adequate swimmer and complete the yardage. What it looks like to me is the guy was trying to pull a fast one and got busted.

Is it cheating to eat Mexican before a swim to help with jet propulsion?

It depends how old she is and if you are married or not.

Only for Kona and Clearwater. The rest you just sign up for.

I have a question...

Since I started, I've been told snorkels are legal...

https://www.nasports.com/RaceRules.pdf

NAS Sports's rules say they're not for IM events (including 70.3)  I know the PDF says it's for 2006, but that's the same file you get following the FAQ for rules questions from IM Florida website.

So, has this been amended again and NAS not updated their FAQ, or are we all wrong?

Wow, so he should burn in hell for wearing fins?  That's hilarious.  Almost as funny as a picture of some dude running into an IM swim with fins in his hand.  His buddy probably bet him he wouldn't do it, and if not, it's still one of the funniest pictures I've seen in a while.  Odds are this was done in jest... if you don't get that, you must be a triathlete.

no offense, but if that doesn't offend you in the slightest, then you must not be a triathlete.

not that i'm losing sleep over this guy b/c it is kind of humorous, but the two issues i have are:

1) why would you do something that could get you DQ'd from a race that costs almost $500 to enter - not to mention travel and lodging.

2) as hard as it is to get signed up for an IM these days, i hate to see one of a limited number of race spots go to someone with preconceived intentions of cheating.
