What kind of protein powder do you use? I've been reading that soy is actually better for you...

I use whey, exclusively because I'm hypothyroid and soy interferes with the body's ability to absorb synthetic thyroid meds.

In what application?  There is correlation between soy (not soy based protein supplements) consumption and reduced rates of cancer but correlation is not causation.

Whey isolate is a very good source of protein for recovery after exercise as the concentration of Amino acids is high.  Egg was the golden standard at one point (hence Rocky's raw egg shakes).  Soy is good for pre and mid workout fuelling as it produces less ammonia.

I use both, although I tried to eliminate any dairy products from my diet I still use Optimum Nurtition 100% Natural protein powder for my everyday nurtition shake because soy/pea protein are just too damn chalky! I need to use at least 12-14 ozs of liquid in that shake and that much of soy/pea protein is too much.

When I have a hard enough workout to think I would benefit from a recovery shake I use Nitro Fusion which is an all natural tri part protein with a scoop of glutamine and about 8ozs of rice milk.

I've tried both and prefer whey protein better.  The soy protein seemed kinda "gritty".  And it gave me horrible gas- so the whey protein was an easy decision for me

casein before bed and during the day, whey before and after workouts.

I've had soy protein, but can't find a brand i can stand the taste of, much like egg protein.

x2  I get mine at Costco and it's a combo of whey and casein, no soy.

Me too.  I also had an allergic reaction to soy during allergy testing.  So far, no reaction while eating, but I do limit the amount of soy I eat.

Ditto.  I hate the gritty soy thing.  I like Hammer's Whey protein since it's completely lactose free!

I use Whey Protein in my "custom" designed nutrition drink from Infinit. Somewhere I thought I read (I think on the Infinit website) that you can absorb whey faster and more efficiently. Whey protein seems to work better for me although I do not have any negative reactions to soy.

Currently use soy, but am thinking of switching to whey after an illuminating discussion with our midwife this morning. Seems the body cannot adequately digest soy (we don't have the enzymes or something) thus we don't get all of the potential benefits from it and it can lead to bloating (which I've experienced). I guess fermented soy products such as tempeh are ok as they are already partially digested. Also said it is not that great for the baby, too. I need to do some more research on this topic. Anyone else heard of this?
