Anyone interested in something like this starting in January?  We could make it as simple as a thread where we weigh in each week or a more elaborate challenge....

I'll do it.  I need a good challenge.  I vote that we use one scale and meeting place.  Or at least have a partner to keep us honest.

How about adding a prize for the top finishers?

Not sure about Zilla and Adam but Javamom looks fantastic. She must simply be organizing this thing.

I will be in.

However, trust is going to have to be the plan as I like Zilla - but not sure I can take the scale to her every week!   Besides, so many of you bagged on Wed night runs that there no longer exists a common meeting spot until the lake warms up again.

I may be interested in this effort.  Even though I have 2 half mary's and mtn bike races coming up, I must remember I can't eat like Phelps can.

Thanks JavaMom,

I am definitely in for this. I need to lose more weight than all of you. So I started today. Since finding out that my knee was actually broken I am staying away from running until I lose 30 pounds.

I am concentrating on swimming and cycling. I will use what ever weight I have achieved at the start of this thing. Let me know a specific date we are starting and I'll record my weight for that day and start there.

How much weight does everyone wanna lose? Personally I'm going for 55lbs.

I have 20 extra pounds that I need to shake, and that is the focus of my winter training.  If I don't reduce the weight, reducing BF% by 5% would be acceptable.  I'm definitely in for the accountability aspect.

Oh I am in!  The more babysitters I have the more likely I am to get rid of, yes, those extra 20 lbs!  And I agree, it may not be ALL weight - it's also BM%.  It's gotta go!

I'm in for 10 lbs (or 12ish after the Thanksgiving eating fest).

If you Phoenix folks all get together to weigh in, perhaps Zilla and I can get together down here.  Our tri club is doing a Dec Run-a-thon as well - goal is 2 miles everyday in Dec.  "Walk w/intention of running" counts as well.

Do most people want a challenge type of competition or rather just a support group where we weigh in?  I am will to do either.

I vote for something competitive, we are all very competitive and that would give us all an incentive.

Do we want the goal to be a percent of body weight, or overall weight loss?

I'm okay with the accountability but I assure you that I need this so I' don't care if someone else looks at the scale.

This is embarrasing, but I weighed in last night at the gym at 290lbs. A very loud wake up call.

You know what though Robin....facing the facts is the first step.  So good for you.  Knowing exactly where you are at and accepting the fact that you got to this point is step 1. Step 2 is knowing that YOU are in control, and you CAN make changes in your life to move you in the right direction!!!  No one is force feeding us, or pinning us down on the couch.  It's all up to us to WANT IT.

Most of us have been there at some point where you look at the scale and just can't believe it.  Like Tanya said it's a good time to take control and let it motivate you.  I have so been there and I understand.

To be honest, you all are a huge inspiration to me. I just love looking at your albums and seeing where you were and where you are now.

For the longest time I didn't see a fat man when I looked in the mirror. Now I realize that I have become someone that I don't even recognize. It has taken me 6 months to come out of the depression from my divorce, but now I am completely committed to getting back in shape.

My main focus is my diet. I think that I am going to start carrying a book and keeping track of everything that I eat.

Well, while this stomach flu diet has been extremely successful, it hasn't been very conducive to training so I think I'd like to join in on the support group thing. It sounds like an excellent idea!

I'm not into a competition, and, like Sandy, I would rather focus on bodyfat % rather than weight.

Maybe we could all post our own personal goals and go from there, and those who want to get competitive about it can call each other out? I have plenty of pink tu-tu's, crocs, etc. that have previously been reserved for Jerry when he's lost his personal pride to my inherent superiority that we can pass out to losers

I might be in too - but for support & not competition. I get competitive enough, i'd be bound to starve for a month straight to lose 20 lbs... Not too healthy.

I would be game for a daily accountability thing where we post daily nutrition blogs. We could each have our own goals like "I am going to eat my daily expenditure minus 500 calories." And hold each other accountable through the nutrition journalling.

While I would hate to think that "Little Buddy" is trying to get rid of his pink wardrobe again - I do think support and a weekly progress report on this thread is appropriate.  Now after IMAZ I have been posting my daily weight to remind (see) that I still have 45 lbs. of hard to move mass on the bones!  I get lazy and have a hard time tracking the daily calorie intake, but if someone knows an easy way to do it (such as a list of the hard to find items like PB and Jelly sandwich and bowl of rice, raisins, and milk) let me now.  But calorie counting is time consuming (yup, I understand knowing the intake is helpful).

Well since having two surgeries this year and only getting in half a season after deciding that I wanted to pursue triathlon, I've gone from 195-180. Ideally my goal weight would be around 170 with almost half the body fat that I have now (about 20% according to my ironman scale). The past two months I've stayed at 180 largely due to happy hours and Sundays at the bar with friends. Not to mention the "I'm training so I don't need to be that strict nutrition wise" thinking that I know is dead wrong. I know that loosing the next 10 pounds and 8-10% body fat is largely gonna come down to diet. I also don't know how to calculate how much I need to consume with my current training load and how to adjust that with increases in training volume. I want to get some LT/Vo2 max testing done in the beginning of 2009 and I'd be interested in having my body fat accurately measured.

I'd be willing to offer support and participate in a weight loss challenge. I may not be able to post to it everyday but I would be committed to check in once a week with a weight and status report.

I am down. Just give me details. I don't care what they are I will go along with 'em. I am 308lbs, and I can not seem to get over the 300lbs wall. I want to get down to 250, so I have the longest to go out of all of you. I want to look good for my Aniversary in March. I will be on the beach in SD, gotta look good.
