Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread

Well here we go started my LP training this week Fear is a great motivator..

Is anyone doing that long training weekend up in Lake Placid in June? I went to the www.firemanironman.com camp two years ago and it was great and inexpensive for all they give you and will probably sign up again...but I would like to get up for another weekend you can never get enough of those hills.

Is anyone putting a BT training weekend together? If so what are the dates?

Thanks Wendy

My first post on BT even though I have been using it for the past few years. Have survived IMLP 3 times (2006-08). Will be doing #4 in '09. Live in area, only 45 min. from LP and bought condo (for rental income) and IM training in LP. My long rides are going from my home to LP and back (95 miles). Would like to join in any June training. Like I said I have only survived the races, but am willing to share any and all info/knowlege I have about the course, training, etc.. Let me know if I can be of any help.

I want to play.  You can add me to the list.  I have done LP three times and plan to do it again in July.  Certainly would not mind seeing a little less rain.  I believe I was more dry during the swim than during the ride or run.

I'm quasi-following Don Fink's Be Iron Fit plan. The difference between his intermediate and competitive plan is simply an extra brick run on the weekend. Now since I got my kids every other weekend I plan to adjust things by following the competitive plan on the non-kids weekends and then following intermed plan on the weeks with the kids and moving my long ride to Thursday afternoon/evening.

The plan doesn't start for another 2 weeks so right now I'm just getting ready for it. Have some knee issues which I'm seeing an ART doc about. It's only running that's affected right now. But that's ok. I feel like I'm in full recovery mode after a tough season.

I am using a 36 week training plan because I took almost 4 whole months off from doing any type of physical fitness.  Right now I am in week 8, approx. 10.5hrs/wk for training.   The plan seems to be going well.  I am coming up short most weeks as I have to fit it in to an already hectic schedule, so I am cutting a swim work out here and there, and then having to restructure a lot of my runs/bikes to my non work days.  It's a pain in the rump....but have to make the time somehow.  Some days I only get in a 25-30minute swim, and the next I may make up for it by doing an hour swim, hour run, and two hour bike.  got to do what you got to do i guess......hope it all works out in the end.

no structure, just go long and have a good time, the rest will happen.

If it get to serious it turns into work and that won't be fun, it has to be fun "for me".

I can't win so I'll choose to relax and enjoy the jouney.

Have fun,

Geoff

Ok here it is.  Please add me to the list if possible

1. Never really stopped training and do not really have any structure.  I am thinking about getting a coach.

2.1rst time Ironman

3. definitly interested in training in June,  I only live 2 hours away and do not mind camping out and training all day.  I am going to try and get up there a few times to train.

I have not raced since early October, but I have not stopped training either.  I have cut back quite a bit though.  Currently, I am just trying to spend more time on the bike.  I am only running and swimming a little.  I am not strong in any of the three disciplines, but LP is all about the bike.  You need to be strong on the bike to setup the run.  My overall goal is to drop some weight and get a lot stronger on the bike.  My official plan does not start until the 1st of the year.  I also follow the BeIronFit competitive training plan, with some modifications.  Currently training about 6 - 7 hours a week with no real structure.  My training is going well.

I'm going to follow PennState's plan but stay one day behind him and make sure that I am doing 10% more.

Actually, I start up with my coach on Jan 1st and will try to be religious about getting every workout in!!

Great, someone else that will be half done with the first lap when I get out of the lake!

I am training using one of the out season plans from Endurance Nation and adding in the Masters swim.  My goal for this year is to meet or beat my swim time and make some significant time improvements on the bike and run.  I am enjoying the plan so far, but I haven't decided yet whether I am going to stick with their plan for the whole training cycle or switch back and use the IM plan I used last year from BT.  I have till early February to make that decision.

I might as well just copy that word-for-word.

Agreed - I want to be able to kick some arse on the bike. The key is "be able to". Race day, I'll need the discipline to hold back.

Thanks for the bike advice!  I generally ride with unconventional gearing because I have only one (road) bike and live on a mountain -- so I have a 52/42/30 triple in front and an 11/23 in back.  I am also small (5-1, racing around 105 lbs I hope) and so have 650 wheels -- altogether that makes me an okay climber, a slow descender, and a high-cadence rider on the flats.

This thread otherwise has made me feel really guilty about not training harder right now!  My last tri was October (hilly sprint), and my first-ever marathon in Nov. was cancelled at 4am on race morning due to the wildfires in the SoCal area.  Since then my coach has me on a preseason plan that prioritizes strength and says "the rest is just fun" (jorge and rick, don't have apoplexy ... I trust and love my Level III coach), but I am feeling seriously guilty about not doing the 100/100 runs with him or the USAT National Offseason Challenge with my "national champion" club teammates!

I'd like to lurk on this thread; I volunteered in '08, and will again volunteer in '09 with the hopes of competing in '10. I missed out on the thread last year and missed meeting everybody.

Also, would it be possible for me to join in the training weekend in June, even though I'll be a year away from racing? I want to soak up all things IMLP in the coming year!

Thanks,

Sue

I can't imagine that anyone around here would say "no, you can't join in the training weekend."
