Intervention

Sigh...I'm addicted to that show. I'm pretty sure Whizzzz is too.

My favorite part is the end, when you can see how they end up. It always pisses me off when they relapse. I guess I want a happy ending!

Me too....I'm addicted...My fiance refuses to watch the show too, so Monday nights are spent in the bedroom while hes in the living room.

The season prem. this year was the worst I think I've ever seen with the alcoholic mother or the one girl who huffed the computer cleaner. My fiance actually competed in the Pro. Track /  Europe circuit with the shotputter. I can't remember her night right now off the top of my head but from what he says she was even crazier back then. ( Its one of the few he actually wanted to see)

Yes, I need an Intervention intervention. 

Dillon was the worst one I've ever seen. He's angry and scary and has the look in his eye like he's about to snap at any given moment. His poor Mother was a weak and weary soul. 

*sigh*

And I don't know why I watch it so faithfully... it's the ONLY show I actually carve out time for....

I'll probably set off a firestorm with this, so sorry...

I just can't get on board with this one (and I did watch 3 episodes)...maybe it's because I've seen family and friends destroy their lives and it hits a little too close to home...watching it on TV is not the reason I watch TV (I like the Simpsons and Family Guy)

And gator re: being pissed when they relapse: welcome to the life of the addict.  Sad fact is that most of the addicts out there DO relapse (especially the ones that are in as deep as the ones on the show).  People can be pissed all they want at an addict, but until the ADDICT decides to change, there's no amount of guilt tripping that will make them get and stay straight, even if they decide to try because they've got a producer and camera crew breathing down their neck...

I would argue that a situation like what's presented in the show creates a higher chance of someone relapsing, due to the increased pressure and guilt felt by the addict (2 major reasons they probably turned to drugs in the first place).

I occcasionally watch the show...its great to see some of the people succeed and breaks my heart when they dont.  It is al too true that most addicts relapse.  Living in South FLroida where it is the hub of recovery centers and half way houses, most my employees are in recovery.  I ahve seen it all.  It is so hard to see them do it to themselves over and over again, but until you are in their shoes, you have no idea how tough it is to recover.

On another note: my brother in law is atherapist for drug and alchohol and other issues as well adn he will be on the show on 1/21 I think thats the date

I just watched it but wasn't paying close attention!  Would you believe a friend of mine saw Josh at The Dubliner last year?!  

I like the show. I think it's important for the "average" person to get even just a tiny little glimpse of what life is like outside of their "average" world.  I also think it is good for people to see how addiction affects family members and loved ones, and not just how it affects the addict. 

Of course, I'm sure that many of the participants could be acting differently due to the producers and camera crew following them around everywhere (that has to be really really strange for anyone), but I think a lot of the emotion that is shown is very real. 

I think my favorite part is seeing if they choose treatment or not.  Not so much if the treatment is totally successful (chances are slim), but that they actually choose to get treatment - to make such a huge leap of faith and to gather up that kind of strength when they are still an addict -  I think that would take a huge amount of courage.

But yeah... good show.  

I don't think Josh would have been that fat if his Dad hadn't been so psycho!

First story was good last night (forgot her name) since it was about a top notch athlete.  It was good that she had something extreme to go back to. 

Sometimes I think us triathletes are addicts too - endorphin junkies as they say.  If you go read the thread about family support, you realize it really can effect your life and your loved ones lives in negative ways if you're not careful and considerate.
