Pre-race routine:

got up, had toast. had a jittery tummy, like i always do. took the kids to gramma's house, and drove to the race
Event warmup:

i walked back and forth from the starting area to the bathrooms because i was so freaking COLD!!
Run
  • 1h 12m 1s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

took me about a mile to get warm, it was so freaking COLD! i found my pace and stuck with it the whole way. felt awesome until about the last mile and a half, my hips are so achy! dumb ol' chick hips that i have :) i ran the whole thing which was my goal. no walk breaks. about 2 miles from the finish i noticed a shadow behind me, i was tempted to walk, but i kept seeing this shadow, so i kept going. then about a mile before the finish she popped up right next to me, so i started chatting with her (i didn't want her to get AHEAD of me after all. LOL) and we ran the last mile together, it was nice to chat that last part away since i was definately feeling some pain by then.
i was dissapointed with my time. in all honesty. i was really hoping to come in much closer to an hour. but i guess that just gives me a goal for my next one in a month.
What would you do differently?:

run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

i grabbed a couple bottles of water, and walked back to the car since i had to get dh to work. i had wanted to hang out. there were sandwiches and sodas and stuff, plus i knew a couple more bt-ers were about but dh was freaking to get to work on time (such a killjoy. LOL) so i just hopped in the car and took him to work. boy was i stiff when i finally got out of the car!! LOL

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of speed. i just need to be faster, that's all i can say. i ran a good race, i kept my pace up through the whole race, my pace just wasan't fast enough.

Event comments:

they weren't organized. the RD had this teeny mega phone, and was trying to give information, but he wasn't loud enough, and there were too many people for his little teeny megaphone to be heard if you were more than about 10 feet from him. then at the end, i told the girl that i was looking for my race tag thing that you pull off your number you know? and she said "it's not like you placed, and frankly, i'm swimming in tags here, don't worry about it" which i thought was CRAZY rude, but she only looked about 15 years old, so whatever. i got my tag off and handed it to her anyway. overall it was a good race though, and i had a blast.

I'm so glad you had a good time racing, and that you'll be back for more.  It's addictive!!  And that girl at the end was very, very rude.   Honestly, it's not about placing, it's about doing!

Great job Lyssa!   Those 2 girls at the end were AWFUL! They kept moaning about "Slow people" as there were still some runners from the marathon on the course!  Urgh.  Probably the RD's daughters.

Congrats on your 1st 10K!!!
