Pre-race routine:

Hydrate on the drive to the course, energy drink about 20 minutes before start-time
Event warmup:

Quick ride/sprint to ge the legs moving, about 4 minutes ride time.
Bike
  • 26m 57s
  • 9.5 miles
  • 21.15 mile/hr
Comments:

Conditions were MISERABLE. Cold, wet, and rainy. The course was drenched. By mile 3 I could feel water puddling in my shoes. I forgot to gear down at the turnaround, so that cost me 4-5 seconds.

Went out not-too-hard, caught 4 people, got passed by two much faster people and one whom I had passed. POWERED up a hill that usually drains me some. The "out" part of the course was run just right.

About 2/3 of the way back I started to feel a little fatigued (started the first 1/3 of the "back" portion a little too fast), so I dialed it back a touch and managed to finish strong. Once I could see the finish line, I was standing until I couldn't any more (about 20 yds).
What would you do differently?:

Train a little more. Not forget to gear down at the turnaround.
Post race
Warm down:

Stopped to chat with a couple of the Endurance Concepts guys at their tent while I waited for my legs to start working again.

Pack up the bikes and get into some dry clothes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Early season training, weather this time of year makes it difficult to get in real road miles and running sessions. I could have put in more trainer time, but I'm very happy with my result from my first-ever TT.

Event comments:

Good time. LOTS of riders. Excellent even tto start the season.

Looking forward to this for years to ocme.

Thanks guys.

I believe it actually got COLDER in between the house in Dougalsville and the site in Hiram. My friend Jeff was NOT happy with conditions, but it just reminded me of all those winter soccer games back home in 40° and rain. I was right at home...
