Now I'm getting nervous about the swim-bike transition. First I need to wear socks. Tried going with out and it bugged me. I use Speedplay pedals and Sidi genius shoes. I tried leaving the shoes on the pedals and mounting that way. Looks like I'l just put the shoes on and walk/jog on the cleats. What material is the transition? Wondering if I'm going to destroy my cleats or pack them with dirt and have issues clicking in.

The transition area is grass until you get out to the mount line on the road (which obviously is pavement).

Hey all, just looked at NOAA's forecast and we'll apparently have some showers, 49deg at 7am rising to low 60's by 11am, 8mph slightly decreasing though the morning, humidity 89% and decreasing with mostly cloudy skies.

Eh, not bad but could be better. I hope the wet roads & downhills don't 'cause any wipeouts!

edited: hyperlink to NOAA's forecast isn't working on my PC, maybe other's then too? So, here's the gory details just in-case: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Keuka+Park&state=NY&site=BGM&textField1=42.6153&textField2=-77.0925&e=0&FcstType=graphical

Good luck to everyone this weekend.  I'll be racing the sprint, my first tri, and riding an old red and white Lemond road bike.  Feel free to say hello.

Practicing transitions today. Pretty, darn nervous about tomorrow. Last triathlon I did was 1992! Does anyone know if it's OK to bring dogs? Good luck to everyone and see you at the finish.

Looks to be a chilly and damp one. Wind isn't predicted to be too bad which is good.

Good luck everyone.

Everybody ready? Just got home from packet pick up. I had a couple of questions. The timing chip where do you wear it, ankle or wrist? I'm assuming it's waterproof? Do the numbers at the transition area correspond to your bib number? Where does the number for the bike go? I'm sure I could find all this out tomorrow morning.

Timing chip goes on your ankle (yes it is waterproof). Each row in transition will be a range of numbers you can rack your bike anywhere in the row that your number falls (they may ask that odd go on the right side and even go on the left or vice versa). The bike number just needs to be visible some common places to attach the bike number are on the top tube or seat post. There will be a ton of people around to help in the morning if you have more questions.

Ankle

 I'm assuming it's waterproof?

Yup

Do the numbers at the transition area correspond to your bib number?

Yup

Where does the number for the bike go?

Typically on the top tube, sometimes on the seat post if you can fit it. The trick is to make sure it's out of your way. You're probably better off waiting until you get into transition tomorrow to see how other people do it rather than stressing over it tonight.

I'll be festooned in my BT gear tomorrow, so if anyone sees me and I don't offer you a BT tattoo, remember to hit me up for one (this is assuming I actually remember to bring them this time.)

Also, please say something encouraging as you pass me on the bike...

It was a great race. First one since 1992! Blew it in the swim. Went out too fast and couldn't catch my breath. Took a while to calm down. Bike was awesome. Run wasn't bad either. Need to work on transitions too. Feel pretty, good. I saw a couple of BT clad racers. Didn't get a chance to meet them. May be I'll pick up some BT Garb for Mini-Musselman.

It was good seeing some BT'ers out there. It was a great day for racing, other than the initial shock of the water.

I had a great time, this was my first race and I really enjoyed it.  Now that I have some idea what I am doing I am looking forward to the mini-mussel.  Here is my race report http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=163039&posts=1&start=1

Position means you must ride to the right, pass to the left. You can only pass other cyclists on the left. Except when passing, you must ride as far to the right as possible.

Sounds like everyone had a great time! And seriously, how lucky did we get with the weather.. it was beautiful in the morning!

Unfortunately my race didn't go the way I wanted. I had a great swim and a solid bike, coming out of T2 at 1:45:00 I thought I had a great shot at breaking 2:30:00. And if you see my logs, my running has been coming along great this season. Well that all went down the tubes when I got abdominal muscle cramps like nothing I've ever felt before. The pain was unbearable when I tried to run. Took me 23 minutes to cover the first 2 miles, and over an hour for the whole 10k. Very disappointing, but now I'm just looking forward to my next race even more!

Thanks for the info.  Out of curiosity, does this mean I would have to ride on the shoulder even if it was in rough condition.  I spent most of my time near the white line (on the road) because it was in better condition.
