a full iron distance race in Cambridge, Md put on by the great folks at tricolumbia.org who also do the columbia oly and eagleman. it's my first iron distance hear it's a bay swim (sometimes w/ jellies and some chop) a flat two loop bike course (sometimes w/ some nasty wind) and a 3 loop run.

who else is in? what should I know about the race?

right now i'm follow the 20 week HIM for silver members. then i'll do the 17 week IM or get a coach. Black bear  will be close to family so they can see why i've been training so hard. I pick Chesapeake man because a guy in my tri club said it would be a nice entry in to the iron distance with out paying the Ironman prices.

yeah I'm excited about Cman it has the same RD as columbia oly and eagleman and has a great reputation. it's well run, flat but no Mdot prices or crowds (and I really scared of an OWS w/ 2000+ people)

Oh man, I can't even think about booking a room right now. After I get through the marathon in May I think it'll hit home that I'm doing this.

Hi guys!
I just signed up over the weekend with some encouragement --this will be my first Iron distance!
I was looking at the B&B's to stay in, but I'm guess the best bet would be the Hyatt (I just hate checking out with a million others at the same time early morning!) since everything is happening there (expo/meeting).
Looking forward to it!

You know, I think I was thinking of all the past races where I've just checked out on race day (early morn) since the race didn't take all day? Guess I have some adjusting to do for this one huh? Wink  Yes, I think I'll be sleeping in as well!

besides eagleman what's a good race similar to this course? options are tupper lake and musselman in july, Timberman in NH (great race but a little hilly) or cannonman in central pa both on 8/23. Quakerman and Diamondman are both on the weekend of 9/13 a little too close to raceday to be much help. any other races?

It's been one week since Eagleman, now the debate begins. Do I start the "bridge" plan I found and do Chessieman?

It would be flying in the face of the thought I had in the last mile of the run last week:"I really wouldn't want to be halfway done right now."

I am doing Musselman and seriously considering this race.  Once I break to my family I think I will do it.  Does anyone know if it is full or fills up?

did you pull the trigger?

don't think this race ever fills up. that is the beauty of non wtc events. I am putting off signing up until I survive a century or two and a half lite in early august (then my poor patient wifey will finally sign off on this crazy adventure)

i think only 80 days to go folks!!!!~

You can typically sign up as close to about 3 weeks out.  I did the AV back in '07 as part of my build up to IMFL.

Very low key event if you've ever done any of the other CTA races.  This one was really chill and a good time.  But be prepared to be lonely out on the bike course.  I'm a crappy swimmer but very strong cyclist so once I got out of the water and passed most of the people that were not strong riders on the first loop I had a stretch on the second loop after going through the special needs area at the high school (which I didn't use) where I literally did not see another cyclist AT ALL for well over a 1/2 hour.  No one in front of me and no one behind me.  I thought I was off course!

Plus it was the year they had a brush fire and re-routed the bike course.  Which totally sucked because they let the fast swim/ride group go through the fire but later turned people off that portion cutting the route by about 5 miles.  It sucked because I was one of the few people stuck in no man's land.  They did not make me turn off but would not let me go through the fire and made me turn around.  When I got back to the future turn off they were re-routing people left.  People I had passed well over 20 - 30 minutes before.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.  So the top people and I ended up riding the full 112 (with my 5 mile out and back) while the majority of the field rode 107 miles.

Be prepared for wind and possibly high heat.
