Comments: This was a near-perfect race for me, both physically and mentally. I know this course very well, which helped me know how to pace it effectively. Started just under my target pace (8:02), the gentle rolling hills were just enough to warm up my legs. The second mile has a short hill, where I knew I would be a little slower, but I didn't want to push too hard up the hill. After the turn onto the trail - it's fairly downhill until the last mile. I tried not to think too far ahead during the race, really focusing on one mile at a time. I was surprised every time I checked my watch to see the pace sub 8:00. By the last mile, I was tired, but knew I had a shot at sub-50 and just focused on that goal. I have no idea how I picked up the pace at the end, but seeing that clock tick toward 50:00 really helped. :) I wondered at the end if I could have run a little faster, but I was pretty dead after I crossed the finish line (so probably not). I had honestly expected somewhere in the 51:00 range for this race, so this was a huge thrill! What would you do differently?: Nothing - I think this was a well executed race. Post race
Warm down: Walked to the busses - not much. Should have stretched more, but it was cold. :) What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing - great race! Event comments: One of my favorite races every year. The course is perfect for a PR and the race is well organized. Chili after the race is always a hit, although I'm never hungry after a 10K. :) Last updated: 2009-03-01 12:00 AM
