Well originally my goal was to break 50min in this race and it was a very acheivable goal- until the trouble started with my wisdom tooth which led to a systemic infection that had me as sick as I can remember ever being. Yesterday I finished the antibiotics and felt better this am but have been essentially couch bound all week...
So I decided I was going to do the race anyway, even if I had to walk parts of it. It turned out that once I got going my body kicked in and I was able to run fairly strong the entire race. I finished in 50:20 witch is 10 secons slower than my last PR but not shabby considering how unhealthy I felt. I know with confidence I can easily break 50 in the next 10K.
After the race rewarded myself with a trip to the dentist. My evil wisdom tooth is gone and my cavities I have avoided for 4 years are mended. Fear of the dentist has been outweighed by fear of being ill. The week off was the most challenging week I've had since starting training- mentally and physically. I am aching to get back into it and feel well. The race today was a big confidence builder in my fitness level.

Good race IG. Getting within 20 seconds of your projected goal is wonderful in light of the fact that your body was probably still labouring under the effects of the anitbiotics.
