Artemis - 2009-06-22 9:57 AM Here's info on the swim for the Tavern tri.  It might get shortened based on weather conditions, but you will know at packet pickup which course is being used:

RMS I Love The Tavern Swim Info: There are two alt swim routes. The decision will be announced at the Sat 3pm race briefing. (1) 450m up current and turn around, (2) about 200m up current from the floating boat dock to the exit dock, (3) about 300m down current from the west boat ramp to the floating dock.

I vote for the down current swimSmile I am glad they are having another pre-swim. I forgot my googles on Saturday so I only did bike/run. The current looked pretty strong.

I am in for Tavern.

What I dont understand is swimming against the current. Walk to the swim entrance 750m away, swim with the current, then exit. No shortening the distance... Like Rocketts.

It still is pretty strong.

Here's a link to a site for river predictions and this one is for the current river flow.

There's no public access 750 meters away, so that isn't a possibility.

I hope the river is nothing like Rocketts, that was a fast current, even with a wetsuit.

Like Artemis said, no can do. It is not a straight course. It is upstream past the exit point, turn-around, and then back to the exit. I will be happy no matter what Laurie decides as long as we don't have to run-bike-run. No DU please.

I was at a meeting yesterday for organization (I'm the run volunteer captain) and there is no discussion of a duathlon.  It will be one of the three swim options.

Jen, Many thanks for updating the options and posting the links.  This little chicken is feeling a bit less nervous seeing how much the river has dropped from the weekend.

Only thing with the 300 yard down current thing is that my friend who did the pre swim on Sat got pushed beyond the ramp and had to walk in from the neighborhood above the park.

That's no good.  If that becomes an option, it will get tested to see how much current there is and if it would b e a problem. We are hoping that it goes down some more.  Friday should give a good idea of how the river is.  There are also plans to have some of the race organizers swim on Saturday morning while we are setting up to give it one final test before the decision is made.

Sounds like they got the hint about being better prepared after the mix up from Rockett's.  Glad you are keeping us in the loop for what you know too.

The friend who got pushed downstream was swimming with her husband and he has the IM tattoo so there's a bit of experience there--not chicken little me who didn' get in once they said that!

It's not just them.  Jack said that the current was really strong and it took him a lot longer than normal to swim the course.

It's come down a lot, so I'm guessing that it will be much better than last week.  We can post thoughts after the swim tonight.

Just got back from the swim practice.  The river is down a lot and there's not as much of a current.  It will probably go down a little bit more, too.  It's pretty warm - I think it was 80 degrees tonight.  It sounds like the course is going to be the originally planned course.

Good luck to everyone!!!

Just got back from setup.  I really appreciate the people who put on the races WAY more after today!  It is a ton of work!!

Everything looks great for tomorrow.  Hope everyone has a great race!!!

I'll be wearing a white volunteer shirt, probably my red running shorts, maybe a hat.  If you see someone who is frazzled and not quite sure of herself, that's probably me.

Congratulations to all who braved the currents in the river.  That was one tough swim.  I kept tangling up with a breast stroker who messed me up big time.  Lots of a$$ grabbing.....Proud to have completed that swim though, don't care about the time.
