Precipitation
Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 1389/1579
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 162/183
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4; bowl of cereal, banana, coffee, then drove up to Columbia. Got everything set up by 6:30, took things to the car, then headed off to watch the pros start.
Event warmup:

limited stretching of my arms
Swim
  • 37m
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

I knew I was going slow when the wave behind me caught me. Never got into the groove, but never felt like I was burning too much energy either. Used it as a simple training swim with long, easy strokes. Sighted about every 10 strokes and was able to stay on course throughout.

What would you do differently?:

Spend more time in the pool.
Transition 1
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

Simply hurry a bit more
Bike
  • 1h 46m 54s
  • 25.48 miles
  • 14.30 mile/hr
Comments:

My legs felt like lead; all I can say is thank god for the granny gear up front!
What would you do differently?:

I need to work more hills into my routine, and I need to lose weight
Transition 2
  • 04m 24s
What would you do differently?:

Nada... changed socks cuz of wet feet and broken toe, just took longer than I anticipated
Run
  • 1h 05m
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Broken toe hindered me a bit, but my legs felt like lead. Never got into a good rhythm. Knee started twinging about 1/2 way through, so walked down most of the steep hills.
What would you do differently?:

Keep on working on running ...
Post race
Warm down:

Walking, eating pasta, nanner, wrapped up in a space blanket

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sore toe, weight is about #15 higher than it should be, traveling this past week and screwed up sleep patterns due to the red-eye on Thursday...

This is no easy course.  I was a spectator today (with hopes for next year).  Tough course, tough weather.  Congrats on finishing!

Hey Paul,

It was good to see you out there but what are you doing running with a broken toe?  That's a tough run with a broken toe and bad knee.  Nice race with those problems.
