Swim
Comments: This is the first swim in a race where I actually felt like I was trying to swim well vs. just trying to "get through" the swim. It was nice once it thinned out a little and the clobbering stopped then I felt like I could focus on swimming instead of avoiding... but swimming is def still my weakness... What would you do differently?: I need to spend so much more time in the pool so I don't actually have to think about how to swim correctly and can just go out there and swim! Also need to figure out how to sight & swim in a straight line so I don't waste so much time zig-zagging. Transition 1
Comments: Quoting a fellow BTer, this T1 was "glacial". You would think I stopped and had a margarita or something... Nutrition: 1 Gu. What would you do differently?: BE FASTER!!! maybe try gu on bike not in trans and wear a tri top & use race belt instead of putting on a shirt w/the number already on it. Bike
Comments: Bike was fantasmal :) I love my new bike! Was FLYING by people on the downhills & straight parts and still passing folks on the climbs. I only got passed about 8 times but must have passed at least 100 people (if not more). Pedaling was good, gears great, no real snags on the bike. The roads were wet so I did slow down a lil extra on some turns but it wasn't too much of a hindrance. Nutrition: drank 1 bottle accelerade & did 1 gu What would you do differently?: Nothing really. P.S. They need to split up the T1 & bike times before I put in rankings for this. Got the T1 time from my watch. Transition 2
Comments: The whole shoes always stay on the bike thing worked out well. No socks w/the bike shoes... although they would have been nice because my feet were numb from the cold so running on the pavement down to T2 was kinda painful! Took till the first climb of the run for my feet to thaw out. Nutrition: 1 Gu What would you do differently?: Gu on the run w/the water stop right at the start, not in T2. Run
Comments: Sooo... on that first climb, I got a little taste of "quads cramping on the run" that I have never experienced before. It really sucked cause by the 3rd hill it was really slowing me down on the uphills. I felt like my form held up well when my quads weren't cramping otherwise I felt like I was running with bricks instead of muscles. Tied my 10k PR :) Nutrition: 2.7 Gus - I think these helped with the cramping over time. What would you do differently?: Figure out why the quads cramped up and make sure that doesn't happen again! Some say it's cause I went "too hard" on the bike (exertion wasn't the max that I've put on that course before though) but I think it's cause my training wasn't intense enough (I guess that happens when you start training 7 weeks out from the race...) Post race
Warm down: I forgot the best part.. It was Chrissie Wellington who put my medal around my neck at the finish!!!! YAY!!!! She's awesome :) What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough training (had pulled out of the race until 7 weeks ago when my ankle made a seriously miraculous recovery) Last updated: 2009-03-27 12:00 AM

Woke at 4:30, showered (gotta be clean to swim in the filthy pee-infested water), ate breakfast at 5. Left the house at 530 - got to the park and quickly scrambled down to the transition to find my baby all wrapped in plastic like I left her, phew :)
Nutrition: Breakfast was piece of big loaf-white toast with jam, 3-egg scramble (2 whites & 1 whole), half of a banana
Apparently I wasn't with it cause I had wetsuit on, watched the pros take of, then realized I forgot to get body marked! Luckily CJ knew where I was supposed to go so my warm up ended up being me running in flip-flops from the swim area all the way back past transition to get body marked then frantically running back down the swim start again! Yikes, close call (thank you MelissaE :))
Gu 30 mins out from start.
