Total Time = 4h 08m 10s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 7/7
Pre-race routine:

Peanut butter Sandwich and a bananna.
Forgot my water bottles for the bike- luckily my roomate had her's in the car.
Forgot my sunglasses-luckily Jerry had an extra pair that he let me borrow.

Event warmup:

No warm up
Swim
  • 45m 55s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

Was really happy with swim overall. Got punched a couple of times. Had one sighting error. Started to sight a wrong bouy which led me a good 50 to 100 meters off track. I kept thinking: Where did everyone go? Then I realized they were all about 100meters to the left of me. Still rocked it overall though
What would you do differently?:

maybe try bi-lateral breathing. Right now I can only breath to the right. I think I could have prevented the Folly if I had been able to see the swimmers to my left when I first started my journey off course.
Transition 1
  • 03m 5s
Comments:

Just took my time on the transition. Was trying to get my head straight after the swim
Bike
  • 1h 39m 37s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 14.97 mile/hr
Comments:

I wanted to average about 15 miles an hour so pretty spot on for not having a bike computer. Really tried to stay focused on the bike I tend to go into cruising mode sometimes but overall very happy with the bike.
What would you do differently?:

need to practice turns and U turns more just not compfortable doing it.
Plus get faster.
Transition 2
  • 03m 8s
Comments:

So had issues racking the bike on this one. Know I know to slide the other bikess over first then attempt to rack not vice versa. Ended up slicing my leg open. Nothing like looking down and seeing blood running down your leg. Yeah I'm tuff like that :)
What would you do differently?:

make sure there is room for my bike before attempting to rack.
Run
  • 1h 36m 22s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 15m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

I died on this run maybe ran a mile of it total. I couldn't cool down and the sun was everywhere. Scorching hot. If it weren't for Rick staying with me I probably would not have finished.
What would you do differently?:

I need to train the run more.
Post race
Warm down:

Shade water and ice all good things.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat really killed me on the run. I was really happy with everything else.

Great race, Mel.

The swim was also long by 300m or so, and if you factor in that , your pace was rocking for the swim!

The heat was just brutal, that's a tuff race and you got it all! You absolutely rock! GREAT job!

Great way to tough it out on that super hot race! Talk about baptism by fire! Sorry to hear about your leg getting cut open -- I didn't notice any blood at the end, so the hose must of washed it off! You are ONE TOUGH GAL!!!

You are much tougher than I am.  That is 90% of this game.  Great working pushing through to the finish.
