Total Time = 1h 41m 9s
Overall Rank = 96/
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 8/
Pre-race routine:

stayed in plymouth, so woke up got situated then drove to sartell after getting coffee and a banana and a granola bar.........once there, checked in, got my packet, put shark bait in the corral, then looked for birkie, found him, chit chatted, saw a few others i knew........usual boring shtuff......
Event warmup:

ran about a mile, stretched.......
Run
  • 18m 13s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 05m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

thought this run went well, hit my goal time perfectly, opening mile split was too fast tho, i thought......
What would you do differently?:

pace better off of the gun, hill dictated otherwise however
Transition 1
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

thought this felt faster, but hey, im pokey in transitions anyway........oh well. had problems clipping in tho after the mount line, wasnt sure what was up with that.......
What would you do differently?:

clip in better i would start with........
Bike
  • 1h 00m 31s
  • 20.51 miles
  • 20.33 mile/hr
Comments:

was very uncomfy on my saddle, will have to get that adjusted. other than that, i thought i felt pretty comfy with the new fit
What would you do differently?:

not listen to people when they say the course is flat and somehow get the saddle taken care of!
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

again, thought this felt faster than what it was, but hey, it was remarkably consistent with T1!!!! was going to do the ride on the shoes and jump off thingy but for some reason i didnt......what up with that???
What would you do differently?:

do what i thought i was going to do!!!
Run
  • 20m 17s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

off the bike i felt pretty good so worked the hill some, not too much tho. during the first run i was planning my second run, so that did help out lots. that hill at the two mile mark is one of those "hidden" hills that can hurt.......noticed that on the first run and decided that would be the spot where i would really attack. worked as i passed about five people on that spot and my last mile split was 5:58.
What would you do differently?:

not much to be honest.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, stretched, at a nana and had a terrible tasting mountain dew

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not much here but did make a few mental tactical errors:
1. set up a turn on the run really really bad and felt a very very minor tweak in my left knee on the first run, but that went away quickly and is a non-issue.
2. set up (or lack of a set up) a turn on the bike. good downhil leads into a sharp right turn, over bumpyness........almost lost it on that one!

Event comments:

overall a very awesome experience. my second duathlon ever (dousman '07 was my first). very happy with how the race went for me. this is going to be in the running for a yearly event for me in the future!

great way to start the season for me and a pretty good confidence builder too!

Nice job Dave!  I don't think I used the word "flat" to describe the bike course, so must have been someone else   Glad  you enjoyed the race and venue.  I think its one of the higher quality races in our area.  Hope to see 'ya there next year.

Great race!  You are a freak on the run, no doubt.   Shore up those transitions, and another year on the bike, and you will tear up that race next year.  Tear it up, I say!
