Total Time = 1h 39m 35s
Overall Rank = 418/478
Age Group = F 45-49
Age Group Rank = 12/16
Pre-race routine:

327: 418 Anne Baker 374 F 48 14:11.7 2:22 03:16.1 44:14.9 17.6 02:12.4 35:39.9 11:30 01:39:35.0

Picked up Mary R and drove to Bloomington at 5 a.m.
Event warmup:

Swam a few minutes
Swim
  • 14m 11s
  • 600 yards
  • 02m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swam with a wetsuit. Swallowed my pride and sported the hot pink cap. If I got into trouble, I wanted to make sure they saw me. Swim was great though. I felt relaxed the whole time, even when someone swam over me. Got jostled a little bit during the first 200 yards, but once around the first buoy it opened up and I just bobbed along.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, swim went well for me considering how new to swimming I am.
Transition 1
  • 03m 16s
Comments:

Went ok until the wetsuit got stuck on my timing chip ankle bracelet. I had to sit down and really work it off. Transition rack was about in the middle of the transition area, so it was a long haul to the bike out. Had a little difficulty clipping in.
What would you do differently?:

Take ankle bracelet off if using a wetsuit.
Bike
  • 44m 14s
  • 13 miles
  • 17.63 mile/hr
Comments:

Somewhat frustrated, got boxed in around mile 5 and couldn't extricate myself for a while. It was close to the turnaround before I worked my way out and then I picked people off on the way back.
Transition 2
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

Had made a mental note that my rack was at the end of the garbage can, but turned at the wrong garbage can, lol!! Kind of freaked out when I couldn't find my spot. Then when I got to my spot, someone had taken my spot on the rack. Racked bike one slot over and the owner of that slot just happened along and was a little put out, or so it seemed to me. I apologized profusely, he was cool about it. Talked to him again after the race and he was very nice about it.
What would you do differently?:

Balloon or something to mark correct row.
Run
  • 35m 39s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

Kind of faded on the run. I was trying to keep from going out too fast, as I am wont to do. I overheated out in the open areas.
What would you do differently?:

More speed work
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, drank water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Rookie mistakes in transition, didn't push myself on the run

Event comments:

Really enjoyed this race!

Don't sweat the mistakes. You still did good!

On my first tri, I mentioned how funny it would be to see balloons, and I did. I thought it was quite comical. But, hey, whatever works!

Considering your mistakes, you still did good. Keep it up!

BAMBAM66 and I were there volunteering (I was helping people up the boat ramp at the end of the swim).

Wyldchyld - Thank you, and I'm sorry I missed you at the race!  Not sure about the Tremont race yet, when is that?

Judi - Thank you!

LostSheep - I was also thinking maybe those "deelybopper" antenna things (anyone remember those???) would be good to mark the spot.

McFuzz - wow, you probably pulled me up the ramp!  It was a little slippery, nice to have the volunteers there helping.  Thanks!
