US Women's Triathlon Series
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 47m 57s
Overall Rank = 1044/1711
Age Group = F 25-29
Age Group Rank = 132/198
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at about 3:40am and took a shower. Ate a PB&J and a banana and Robert the DH drove me to the race. Got to transition and met up with Chilakeshore (Lauren) We racked our bikes about 10 people from each other. Walked around with her and chatted with her friends
Event warmup:

No warm up really
Swim
  • 13m 56s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt AWESOME!!! Water temperature was perfect. I got a little bit beat up at the beginning but worked my way through it and did not freak out! The middle/end was great and I felt really strong getting out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really...other than train more...you can always train more, and more practice sighting!
Transition 1
  • 05m 51s
Comments:

This was a little rough as it was my first time having to get out of a wetsuit but it went ok. I just need to practice more.
What would you do differently?:

Practice practice practice!!!
Bike
  • 51m 50s
  • 13.8 miles
  • 15.97 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a two loop course with a headwind coming back in towards transition...not terrible but not much fun. I could have pushed this faster, but was trying to keep something in the tank for the run. I struggled to get clipped in, but I was really proud that I did not freak out and just pedaled with my feet on top of the pedals until I managed to clip in. I struggled a little with left turns. I just need to get out on the bike and ride more. I ride too much inside! I passed many people, but was also passed by many people.
What would you do differently?:

Practice actually riding not just depending on the trainer so much.
Transition 2
  • 03m 21s
Comments:

This was good until I forgot to take my cycling gloves off and had to go back 3 steps to take them off. I grabbed a drink of gatorade and one shot block...I think I should have taken another one or two!
What would you do differently?:

Remember to take off my gloves and make nutrition more of a priority
Run
  • 34m 1s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

This is where my race fell apart a little bit (this is still a PR for a 5K for me and the first time in a race I have gone sub 11 min miles) I was good for the first 2.5 miles ( and perhaps I went out too fast as my first mile was at 9:45) but then I started to get nauseous and got goosebumps and knew I was ovreheating. I just tried to keep moving and was praying I could make it too the end. I think this was a hydration/nutrition issue. I think I needed to eat a shot block during each transition and drink more on the bike than I did. By the time that I was running it had been 6 hours since breakfast and I think that is what sank me a bit. Its hard to be disappointed with a PR run, but I had hoped to finish feeling better than I did and I wonder how fast I could have gone if I had felt better.
What would you do differently?:

Drink and eat at each transition
Post race
Warm down:

Took pictures with Lauren. Sat down in the shade, poured water over my head, ate something and drank a lot of water...started to feel better

What limited your ability to perform faster:

mostly hydration, and nutrition...and training...as I said earlier you can always train more.

Event comments:

Packet pick-up was a bit of a mess, but I somewhat blame that on the rain. This was also a new location for pick-up from previous years.

Overall this was a great race. It was a lot of fun getting to race with so many of my friends! I had three goals for the race (some spoken and some unspoken): 1) finish 2) run the whole 5K 3) go sub 2 hours

I achieved them all and so overall I think it was a successful day!
