Alright. Too soon to start the smack talk? =)

About 6 weeks to go... my first Olympic Tri... well, "sortof Olympic" distance I suppose with the swim...

Still on the DL by MD orders, but can't wait to start training again in a few days. (Yes, no training -> Completely bored.)

Who else coming out?

Smack talk? Nah...not me. Have you seen how fast some of these people around here are? Bummer about the MD. Heal quickly. I'll see you at the race.

Bwaaa haaa haaa...I'm surrounded by comedians!  I'm assuming you meant you're taking 1st, right Mike as this is just another training day for you (granted one that will make you get your arse in the water!)

1st place? 20th?

Are we talkin age groups? Maybe if my AG only has 19 others. =)

I think I'll follow my usual goal: beat half, lose to half. The only question is whether i'm trying for the 50% mark OA or for my AG. Unfortunately, my AG is quite a bit more work.

How's everyone's training going for Tinman? Just two weeks to go! I'm sucking hard. Vacations are terrible for training. I had no access to a pool or a bike while I was in CA so I am madly training just to try and not fall behind my race last year. Good luck to all!

BTW, did you all see the Tag the World celeb tri on August 23rd? It's a sprint and I think it's going to use some of the same turf that Tinman uses. I signed up today. It is on the existing list of races here on BT. Helps fill the gap a little between Tinman and Ko Olina.

Its a pretty good race. This was my first ever tri 3 years ago and I've been hooked ever since.

picked up race packet....I am going to get knocked out of the way by some 20something woman.  It is a later start and now I won't be complete until 9 because of my start time.

I'm getting mine tomorrow...did everyone see that Oahu residents who don't pick up their packet by Wed will have to pay a "$5 late fee?"  I just noticed that today and had to chuckle...a late fee for not picking up your packet?!

My wave is first, my wife's wave is last.

I'm feeling pretty good... so much harder for her to pass me. =)

*PS: That packet had WAY too much paper.*

We picked ours up Saturday, but I haven't looked at it yet. I'll have to review it tonight after work. How many waves are there? Hopefully I get lined up after Happychick, I don't want her running me over during the swim

Oh no worries Mike...that'll be me hanging on your toes!!  Besides, I'm in the last friggen wave (of 5)...really?! I had to be in the absolute last one?!  I'm thinking you'll have to come wake me up when you're done just so I can go start!

Finally looked at the race packet, can you say "double-sided printing?" Wow! what a book that was. This is an early race. We are considering staying downtown Saturday night just to get some extra sleep. Good luck everybody

If it makes you feel better... they usually place the slowest groups in the middle. They're counting on the last wave, you female youngin's, to hurry-up so they can stop paying HPD overtime to control traffic. =)

PS: My wife and I swam the course this evening. Zero underwater visibility, a few patches of rock/reef stickin out, and a few waves breaking on your side. Was fun. Wife hated it.

This is my third year doing this race and I love it. The swim is not bad at all. The only problem with it is that it can be a little crowded on the outbound leg as you are pinched between the buoy line and the reef.

If you haven't done this race before, I recomend a drive over the bike course. There are a couple of hills, the worst being out in Hawaii Kai where you make the u-turn (Heartbreak Hill). The other hills are as you pass over Diamond Head. The course is well marked, but there are quite a few turns.

Good luck everyone and I'll see you out there! BTW, I'm #537 and wearing the stylin' green swim cap.

Ahhhh... Heartbreak hill. Its my worst enemy!

We usually cut it into pieces by going through the residential area... but the course goes right up it.

The little woman (who absolutely refuses to get out of the saddle on climbs) wanted to carry two water bottles for the race... and all I had to say was "You want to carry EXTRA weight up heartbreak?"... she quickly decided 1 bottle was fine. =)

Ok, you can stop scaring me now!!  After the month I've had (read: little training) I don't need big, scary hills thrown at me!  Aaaah, I was going to take a look at the course this week anyway so I guess I would have found out sooner or later, right?  But, isn't ignorance bliss?!

Mike ~ my Mike and I were talking about the same thing but either way, this might be my first race they don't come to.  It just makes for such a long day for Sammi!!

Sam ~ want to swap for black?  I don't think anyone would notice!

I'll have my camera if anyone is up for a pic ~ no pressure but I just love photos!!  If my hubby is there though, I'll have to warn him about those arse shots!!

Hopefully I'll see you all out there!  Good luck and have fun!!

That's a lot of numbers.  The number that goes on the helmet is the small white sticker that says Helmet ID and not the smaller one on the race number?  Also, are you guys planning on putting both the run and bike numbers on your race belts?  The nice lady that gave me my packet suggested I pin it on after the swim, but I'm looking for something a bit faster.  I think the easier way would be to tape the run number to the back of the bike number and flip it in T2, but after reading the legal document that came in the packet I don't want to be DQ'd.

I'm just going to use the run number on my race belt like I always do. I'll have it face the back for the bike and turn it around for the run. I don't think they will DQ anybody for that. Every tri I've done has been ok with that.

Call me silly, when I did this one last year, I bought a 2nd race belt. I threw one on for the bike leg with their bike number and made the running switch in T2 and taking off the bike number as I was running to the rack and put my 2nd belt on with the run number as I left my staging area. Didn't really cost me any time. Mike is probably right though about just using one number and switching it around...although I will probably do my two belt routine again this year.

I have the same issue on the numbers..good idea to flip race belt around, but I wonder if the officials will have a problem with that. considering going out tomorrow and get a second race belt.

where can you park ?

I park at the Fort Derussey lot and just take a leisurely ride down Kalakaua to the park. There are hotels down at that end that you can sometimes park in, but I haven't found too many hotels in Waikiki that won't charge an arm and a leg for the 5 or 6 hours that you would be parked there.

Good Luck tomorrow everyone! Hope to see some of you out there.
