Mathematically, if you're under 67% you have some remedial pedaling to do this week! |

Expert 1013 White House, TN | Subject: RE: WEEK 2 Results: kim and the bear's Ride Lots Challenge I'm still trying to figure out how 150+ miles is 58% of my total of 200, but that's no biggie. I know that I'm on track to meet the challenge. That's all that matters! |

Lethbridge, Alberta | Subject: RE: WEEK 2 Results: kim and the bear's Ride Lots Challenge Hawkeye, I'm guessing from your question that you didn't realize the challenge was for milage in April after the 9th. Your miles up to and including the 9th of April don't count towards your commitment. That's why the bear is listing 4/9 miles and subtracting them from the total. What's left counts towards your goal. That means that as of last Saturday you had 117.56 miles towards your goal of 200, or about 58.78%. |

Veteran 279 Richmond, VA | Subject: RE: WEEK 2 Results: kim and the bear's Ride Lots Challenge The original challenge started in the middle of the first week of April, so the question asked was: "How many miles can you log between April 10-30?" Your goal was to be defined as what you could accumulate in the last three weeks of April, so the miles logged before April 9th are not included in the total. Since April 9th, you have logged 115 / 200, 85 or so to go; as I understand it. Clearly I am not the owner nor moderator of this challenge, but I am right. |

Resident Curmudgeon 25290 The Road Back | Subject: RE: WEEK 2 Results: kim and the bear's Ride Lots Challenge Obviously the hairy puppet from Virginia has a better grasp of the mathematics involved than the ugly bird with the Iowan education. As the puppet explained (and as has been the case since this thing started) the mileage in your logs as of April 9 represents the starting point of the challenge. The mileage in your logs as of April 23 represents the stopping point of week 2. Subtract the starting point from the stopping point and you get the distance traveled during the two week period. In Iowa's case, 151.42-33.86=117.56, and that 117.56 divided by your goal of 200 equals 58.78%. Further mathematical analysis indicates that you are not exactly on track to meet your goal, that you should be at 66.67% of your goal or at 133.34 miles, so you are around 17 miles short of being on track, and you have ~82.5 miles to ride this week (through Saturday) to meet your goal. Any questions? Edited by the bear 2005-04-26 10:05 PM |

Ms. Kimquat is in a demoralized, I-hate-my-bike state, which I hate to aggravate/compound by talking smack. I think she's more focused on writing her concession speech and shopping for a skimpy red wedgie suit for the photo shoot. Edited for more creative sub/superscript use. Coach 9167 Stairway to Seven | Subject: RE: WEEK 2 Results: kim and the bear's Ride Lots Challenge My week of night shifts turned my rest week into a neglect week! Only once of each discipline. Oh well. I will still get in my 2 outdoor rides this week, for a total mileage this week of around 45. |

Expert 1013 White House, TN | Subject: RE: WEEK 2 Results: kim and the bear's Ride Lots Challenge Okay, so I misunderstood the stated goals. My goal was to take the curren mileage + 150 challenge, which would have produced 183 and some odd miles total for the month. But, to make it easier for me to follow, I rounded the TOTAL miles for the month to 200, meaning I was going to add 166 and some odd miles to my current mileage as of April 9. I thought we were posting our total ending mileage for the month, not our total additional miles for the month. Looks like I'm going to be one of the losers, then. Veteran 279 Richmond, VA | Subject: RE: WEEK 2 Results: kim and the bear's Ride Lots Challenge You chose to respond to the challenge. You set a goal for yourself that was a challenge to you. Bugger the math, if you meet your goal as you understood it, regardless of where your name lies on the list based on some technical misunderstanding, you should consider yourself a WINNER. Hell, the real losers are those folks sedentary folks who don't know the joy of pushing beyond what at first seems to be an unreachable goal; and with the milage you've done this month, that aint you. |

Veteran 112 Minnesota | Subject: RE: WEEK 2 Results: kim and the bear's Ride Lots Challenge I know . . . whine, whine. But I simply can't add or subtract, but if you look at my original post I was planning to do 250 for the entire month . . . not 250+89. This probably won't help me much anyway since I was out for almost a week with the stomach flu and now my kids have it, but maybe I won't look like such a loser if you adjust my totals for what I really intended to do. Please???? |

Bear is a Edited to add: I'm not sick of my bike anymore. A few days off of it and I'm actually stoked to go for a tough ride this afternoon! Nope, not a sandbagger at all, I fully intended to try to ride 500 miles this month, and you can go back and check posts to that effect. But you were pushing so hard, I had to increase my daily mileage, especially not knowing what obligations, or weather delays, or other contingencies that would keep me from riding. Plus, I'm having a great time doing it (I love MY bike!). Never expected to hit 900 miles, never have before, but what the heck. Might say I rose to the challenge. Plus the male BTers offered me big bucks so they could view the booty. |

Resident Curmudgeon 25290 The Road Back | Subject: RE: WEEK 2 Results: kim and the bear's Ride Lots Challenge Gwozdzilla - 2005-04-27 12:29 PM Just the thought of Bear calling me a slacker (sniff) kept me going. I thank you Bear, you truly are the wind beneath my wings. {{{blush}}} Actually, I'm probably more like that headwind in your face that challenges you just enough that you won't let it deter you, but rather it causes you to buckle down, spin those pedals and get the job done, maybe finding something new within yourself in the process. I don't know if I'm more surprised at the lack of reading comprehension here, or the wishy-washiness in pursuit of a self-defined goal. The challenge was to ride a minimum of 50 miles (higher if you desired) per week for the last three weeks in April. No one forced you to take on the challenge, and no one's going to belittle you for not succeeding. Stuff happens, but don't blame this challenge on your loss of sanity or health. Ride Lots! |

Remember the underlying motive that Kim and I had was simply to motivate all of us to get out and ride more. If we've achieved that, then everybody's a winner, regardless of whether or not they reach some arbitrary mileage number. Still, there's a lot to say about setting a goal and sticking to it... |
