Subject: Equipment I haven't thought of that will have the biggest impact for a beginner
Greetings,

I have competed in 1 Sprint Tri (Tri-It version) and will be doing at least one more Tri-It and at least one Full Sprint, maybe two this season.  I am wondering what I might get next to assist me in my training and upcoming races.

I will share with you what I already I have so you can provide me your thoughts on what equipment I should invest in next that will have the biggest impact.  I have a new road bike Giant Defy w/ entry level acccessories, with Clip-on Aero bar (Profile Century), clipless pedals, bike shoes and a Profile Aero Bottle up front.  I have the Tri-shorts and tri-tops; two pairs of running shoes.  Pretty good pair of Aqua Sphere Goggles.  I will mostly likely continue to rent my Wetsuit at least until the third race.  I tried a full wetsuit my first race and will rent a sleeveless this next time althought one size smaller just to try it out.  Love my Tri-Bag from TYR.  My wife is wondering if it will ever end. I told her of course not!!!

Oh I am joining a fitness club with a year membership; I have been on a two week promotion at the club to try it out and have been going petty much daily.  Allows me to swim, attend spinning class once a week to add to my biking and lifting weights.  I can run inside if I need to or use the spinning bikes when the weather is nasty.

So given all that do you have any thoughts I what I might invest in that will assist me in further training and racing.  Feel free to tell me nothing and my wife will be estatic, but only if you truly believe that.

Thanks,

TriGuyBri

Gear-wise, it sounds like you are set. Only thing I can think of is more running/cycling clothes. It's hard to have too much here...and the more you have, the less frequently you have to do loads of laundry. There are the random pool toys, but I think you should avoid most of these until you know how to swim.

If you wanted to splurge, a Garmin is a nice training tool and you can get them with an HRM if you decide you want to go that route in your training.

oh yea...I'm assuming you have a helmet but just forgot to list it.

Time to make your wife ecstatic. You don't need anything more except time, and to follow the two rules of training.

1. Just do.
2. you need more of #1.

Perhaps a trainer so you can train indoors on your own bike if weather is bad, and a few training dvds (spinervals, carmichael, etc.). Spin bikes aren't a bad option, but your position will never be quite the same as on your own bike.
