I surf around and find this interesting article

Doesn't seems to be in the same school as most of us believe in our training.  Can we replace our 3 hrs long ride with few 6 minutes intense interval?

Any thought?  discuss.

Sounds like something out of Dodgey Brothers Research Facility to me.

There may be some truth to that, but until there is solid scientific evidence, I wouldn't try and do an Ironman on that!

They'll probably find like just in the tabata study, that the improvements from this kind of exercise only last a few weeks.

I am wondering how long it will take for this article to be cited as a source on the Crossfit Endurance website

AS they cite on the article: this is nothing new, yet some of the conclusions of the article IMO seem misleading but it is hard to tell as the author might be at fault. I did't see any references on the article, I'll like to read it 1st to learn how it was conducted how is that they measured intensity, etc.

i smell a rat...a wet one.

very interesting study, but i'd also like to see sources sited.

pardon my ignorance, but wouldn't sprinters fall into this class?

I was imagining the little rats swimming and wondering to myself how they get them to do that. I probably don't want to know.

As far as sources go, the National Institute of Health and Nutrition in Japan appears to be similar to our National Institute of Health.  It was an original study, as is the one at McMaster which is quoted in the article.  They are going to be publishing their results in the near future.  I think the NY Times is okay source for this type of article.   So, I'm not commenting on the study itself because I don't understand this stuff, but it seems legit.

"..After two weeks, both groups showed almost identical increases in their endurance...

I'm pretty sure that during the first few weeks of exercise your body adapts by getting more efficient.  You don't start seeing any of the large muscle/cardio gains until a few weeks in.

I am very skeptical of this approach, but we'll see what the final results show.
