Has anybody successfully swam with stitches? I fell over on my bicycle this morning, splitting open my right palm (I have three stitches). Has anybody found a quality band-aid that successfully protected the wound from water prior to having the stitches removed? It's been bad enough that I haven't been able to run, I'm hoping I don't get swimming taken from me, too (eventhough it would only be for 7-10 days)

I hate to laugh at you, but it seems like you're falling apart!  And I have nothing constructive to add.

Dang! You are falling apart!

At least you were not seriously injured. Stitches are bad though. Sorry to hear it!

Nothing else to add... but sorry to hear it.

I'm feeling very loved right now.

Believe me, I'm waiting for something else to happen. I was a sight to see yesterday. I was walking around yesterday in my boot with my hand wrapped in gauze. I looked pretty pathetic.

they make liquid bandaids that are pretty good.  it's in a little vile with a funky little brush that you use to paste on.  i would use a small thin profile bandaid and then use the liquid bandaid on top.  that way the stitches don't poke through the seal of the goo.

never used them for swimming, but used them in college when i was bartending.  i'll be getting stitches next week so will be in the same boat as you.

good luck.

I forgot that I have some of the liquid bandage stuff. Thanks for the reminder. I had planned on swimming Wednesday and Friday of this week. Now I'm shooting for Friday unless a killer solution presents itself. The combination of liquid bandage and water-proof band-aids could possibly work. Maybe I'll have to do some experimenting tonight. THANKS.

FYI- Nexcare make the BEST waterproof bandaids ever!

I will put one on and it will last 2 days... through swimming laps, and showering.

Not to be a naysayer, but this seems like a better question for your doctor.

When I gashed my head the day before a race last year, I told the doctor what I was doign the next day so he used glue instead of stitches.  He said the glue was better if I was swimming in a lake but would cause more scarring.

So I had to come up with a creative story that sounded better than reality.  Something about a guy hit me with a beer bottle.  Noone has bought that story...  At least I got my first hardware in the race!

My doc told me no swimming no exercise for 10 days after he put stitches in my nose (no - it was not a rhinoplasty...)
