Subject: A handy way to keep your HR down during the run
If you're like me and have issues keeping your HR down during a run, I've found a really good way of getting you into the zone you want to be in. It's actually really simple; all you have to do is swim for awhile then get out of the pool, and as you're walking barefoot over to your bag to change clothes, jam your toes against the metal leg of a nearby bench as hard as you possibly can. The resulting pain during the run should slow you down enough to drop your HR a few beats and get you into base building mode.

You're welcome.

Ouch, sounds like a painful way to control heartrate.  I did something similar before a 5k a couple months ago - slammed a toe, cut it open, and ended up bleeding into my shoe the entire run.  Oddly enough, my HR was still pretty high - probably because I was spending the extra effort muttering about being a clumsly oaf.

Ouch... but I do like the ADHD dog tip. Once ran into a guy on the trail that had a dog that had to out run anybody that passed him and his owner. Needless to say, it appeared owner was getting quite the set of intervals in, indeed.

Oh, that's funny!  I've taken my aunt's dog running a couple of times but since he's never run with them he thinks he can stop and sniff every 10 feet.  Makes for a lot of stop and go.

I'm equal-opportunity when it comes to thrashing your feet.
