embarassing bicycle moments (Page 2)

First ride with the cleats.   Riding on a bike path, which crossed a main road.   Stopped at the stop sign for the crossing, panicked, and couldn't get unclipped.

Started to fall right, when my seat leaned up against the stop sign post.  

So there I was, bike leaning right, right hand on the ground, left hand gripping the handlebars, still clipped into my pedals.  

I was able to contort my leg enough to get my right foot unclipped and stand up.

Bruise and a scrape on my left forearm from the fore-arm rest on my aerobars.

Luckily, it was EARLY in the AM and no one saw.

I hadn't really had any embarassing moments until my last race. I'd been riding a lot on my road bike in the rain with lots of descents so I got very used to the play in those brakes w/ road handlebars. In the race, on fresh pads that really stick to my Zipps, I came into T2 too fast and must have hit the front brake too hard. I went over the handlebars, landed on my L. shoulder, L knee, R hand. There was about 500 people watching the race right there and during the confusion of the crash I could hear a huge, "ooooh" from the crowd. Then just silence except for me screaming in pain with an AC sep, and fractures in my thumb and ring finger. After a couple minutes they gave me a standing O as I walked my bike over the timing mat and into T2.

I have done the clip one side lean the other in a group of people after we joked about others having done it... very impressive moment for me.

I think my best was college, on a mountain bike, beautiful spring day... I am flying down the road on my way back from class, backpack on, feeling cool and in charge of my world (as any overconfident freshman) I swung in from the pavement up the access ramp onto the sidewalk (with my very impressive bike handling skills) as I looked off to my right at a group of women laying out in the courtyard in front of the freshman dorm... Im smiling at them, feeling good and--- WHAM --- I slammed the bike right into a sign, the bike stopped I flew forward, checking my collar bone against the sign on the way over and landing ever so delicately on my shoulder/head.  Yes, those women were all impressed, as you can imagine they would be...errr ummm... that is the way I remember it anyway!!!  ahhh freshman year :D

Ironically I was just reading this thread on Thursday when Friday morning I started to fall trying to get back on to cross an intersection and ended up on the ground, still clipped into my bike.  Approximately 20 x-rays later, my docs concluded that I broke the head of my radius.  Ugg.

When I first learned how to use clipless pedals I didn't know about the little stopper on the front of the shoe (I don't know the technical term for it). At a fully loaded four way stop I put my shoe down directly on the cleat instead, it slipped out from under me, and I fell into a parked car.

I also lived by a school at that time and went down two or three times in front of groups of junior high kids while trying to clip in. They usually looked at me like I was some kind of novelty act, but held their laughter until out of earshot.

Look down to find water bottle to see if it was empty, oh so I could turn into the coffee shop to fill it up.  Down pedal  right, wheels and bike go left.  Not get into the coffee shop.  Skidding down the road on right elbow in front of the fire station.  No cars coming thank god.  Lie there for a second get up and the fireman walk out to see if I need help say I could use a band aide.  They tell me to late for that, how about and ambulance.  See that its your elbow tendons.  Got a nice ambulance ride a mile and half to ED.
